I was in Jacksonville on business in February, and stumbled across this place on Google. The wait staff that served our table was extremely polite and very knowledgeable of the menu a recommended pairings. I ended up getting the, beef tartar, the escargot, the surf and surf (diver scallops and seabass), and the lemon lavender creme Brule. It was all amazing! It's been a month and a half and I still have dreams about that Seabass dish.

Excellent experience. From the charcuterie to the Australian ribeye to the Grand Marnier soufflé, everything was flavorful and delicious. Ryan, our server, was timely yet not intrusive, and saw to everything. Looking forward to returning.

I've never been to a restaurant like Mathews. My sister Pam took me for my birthday. From the time we drove up to the restaurant it was amazing. The only thing we had trouble with was finding the place. It doesn't have a big sign. Our waitress Jess was very knowledgeable about the menu, she explained every course. We tasted food that we never tried before and ever thing was absolutely amazing. We will be returning many times in the future

So YOU HAVE TO GO TO THIS RESTAURANT!! We were just there last night for my husband’s birthday, and never in my life have I received service as incredible and meticulous as this restaurant. And I have had dinners costing upwards of 500-1000 dollars for a couple. From the moment we got there, everyone at Matthew’s were so friendly, knowledgeable and inviting. The menu said happy birthday Jason, which was such a special cute touch! Everyone from the restaurant even signed it at the end of the night thanking us. The food was absolutely exquisite! WOW! You have to try the scallops.. the BEST I’ve EVER had. And the oysters and mussels.. wow! At the end of the evening, they gave us this incredible dessert as well as champagne for everyone in our party, which was on the house. WOW!! We will definitely be going back! The atmosphere was romantic, quaint, and very intimate. The service as I mentioned 5 stars!!! Even the chef came by to make sure we liked everything! And the food was some of the best I have ever tried. We are now sold and likely will be coming here at least once a month! Thank you Matthew’s for making my husband’s birthday so incredible! We are so happy we chose to dine with you guys for such a memorable event. For everyone reading this, this place is an absolute gem. YOU HAVE TO GO! I wish I could back now haha.

Unfortunately our experience was abysmal. From the untrained wait staff that couldn't describe dishes properly to the food itself (everything was fatty and oily) the experience we had was terrible. Food needs more balance...in other words don't serve A5 Wagyu with oily potato cakes or foie gras on top of truffle oil. Drinks were also terrible. Asked for a dirty grey goose martini and received what tasted like olive water mixed with a little bit of vodka and blue cheese olives that were clearly purchased from a grocery store and not hand stuffed. For the price I expect much more. The server didn't seem to care that we weren't enjoying our meal or cocktail either.

The selection on the menu is very diverse, with many well-prepared choices from snacks to main courses. As a woman who loves to try new flavors, I was happy to see that they offer many innovative and unique dishes on the menu. Whether it's creative vegetarian options or expertly prepared meat dishes, every dish showcases the chef's passion and care.

Matthew’s knows exactly how to execute a phenomenal experience. Philip, our server, was very skillful and made our dining experience one to remember!

Our hostess Marybeth greeted us and took us directly to our table, where we were served by Caroline who has impeccable, wine knowledge, and was just an overall pleasure to be around. I cannot recall the name of the young man that served us also but he was also a pleasure. Fantastic food service hats off to the cooking staff.

Over priced. Nothing on menu that caught my eye even a Brie or shrimp (like bang bang) and a reasonably priced cocktail or glass or bottle of wine. A dessert to die for that makes the visit memorable like the carrot cake at J Alexander or Cheesecake. I was not impressed especially after check came.

Caroline was outstanding! We have a one year who we had a babysitter and noticed she moved the courses faster for us which appreciated: did the wine tasting pairing and 6 course menu: usually there is one course that is a dud but every course was so good: we want to go back and take our parents there as well.

This was the first time my wife & I have dined here. The food was amazing, the presentation was amazing, & the service was amazing! We had David as our server, & he was incredible, extremely detail oriented, & knowledgeable! 10/10 recommend! We will be back!

Nothing but goodness in this establishment!

Food was great service even better. The experience is ruined by the noise level. It's so loud we couldn't carry on a conversation. So for the price $400 for the 2 of us, it's a bit disappointing. It's not the price it's the return on value. If you want to relax over an expensive meal this probably isn't the place I would suggest. I do t know if the booths have less or more noise.

The all experience was sublime, the food was one of the most delicious delicacies that I ever have. The attention was very nice. Definitely I will come back …

I've been going to Matthew's a few times a year for several years, but my last two visits have really just disappointed me. After last night in particular I'll probably have to find a new spot.It was Valentines Day, so no doubt it's a crazy night for the service industry. However, we had a reservation at 8pm, when we arrived at 8 we were told they were a few minutes behind. We were seated at 9pm, and the first course of a four course meal didn't arrive until 10pm. For a prepaid $350 meal, I'd expect to eat less than 2 hours after my reservation time, but since it was paid in advance there wasn't really an option to go elsewhere. Our entree didn't get to us until about 10:45pm, so at that point we opted to bag up our entree and desserts as we had been there for 3 hours and had obligations in the morning.Hope things get better, might try again in a few years.Justin
