“I've heard of this place long before I got a chance to give it a try. Today was the day! Location wise, it's situated great for games or eats when you don't want the usual tailgate food (it's so close to the stadium you can walk there) however it's not really in an ideal spot for "foot traffic". I went around lunch time and it seems that this is the spot to eat at if your anywhere near here. There was a constant flow of people. The decor, smells, and vibes screamed Puerto Rico. The counter top has a warmer full of empanadas, all sorts, kinds I never even heard of. I ordered a beef empanada, the pork bites plate, and a sandwich for my husband. The empanada almost didn't make it home. I took a bite in the car and couldn't help taking another and another. There were 2 sauces given so I figured I should save a small piece so that I could use the sauce provided. One sauce was spicy (similar to a hot sauce) the other was like a mayo base with a pinkish color. Both were good, especially together. The pork bite plate was good. The pork itself was tasty and cooked really well. The outside was crunchy and the inside was moist. The rice wasn't bad but I expected more flavor. The salad was wilted by the time I got to it. I think it was the heat from the other food. It would probably be best to separate them when it's a to-go order. The Cubano sandwich was huge, like cover the plate huge and my husband said it was really good (mind you, it was on the cold side when he ate it and that was still his response). As far as payment goes, they do not accept cards, only venmo, cash app, or zelle. That could pose a issue for some, like older customers who may not use those and don't have cash available. I did have minor difficulty understanding the menu, Spanish is the first language of the establishment. The specials for the day were in Spanish without translation underneath. The menu does have translation so that's a plus. Now let's talk about the wait...that's what I took off stars for. I understand it was the lunch rush but I waited for some time just for take out. I also noticed many of the customers that opted to fine in waiting on there food as well. I would suggest definitely calling in your order, or wondering online if you don't want to wait. I saw so many other things I wanted to try on the menu. I most certainly will be back“
“They have seating outside, didn’t wait long. We got a taco, the salsa is so good. I’m usually prefer red salsa but they had green. I think it paired with the taco perfectly. First time coming and I usually am weird with getting food from food trucks because of a past experience. But definitely coming back. Funny enough a store near by was playing Latin music which really helped the atmosphere.Wheelchair accessibility: I didn’t use my wheelchair today, didn’t need it. But the window to pay is higher than I can reach with my limitations but my spouse can. There is nothing on the ground that could possibly prevent mobility. They did bring our food out which is great for accommodations.“
“I would rate this place: 5/5 decor 5/5 cocktails 3/5 food It has potential but it is at a very strange location: a random strip mall behind Bally's Fitness in Southside. You won't see it off the main road. You see the valet parking sign but there's no need for valet when there's an entire empty parking lot at a strip mall where most of the stores are closed. It would be better suited in Downtown Jacksonville riverfront to revamp our downtown area or San Marco/Riverside area. It is a beautiful space that you would see in Miami including the prices. Tip: dress to impress in a classy way or to a buisness meeting. Don't show up in jeans, Tshirt and sneakers.“
“This gem is Jacksonville’s best kept secret. The space is clean, the ambience is inviting and warm, and the food is absolutely, scrumptious, and delicious. If you are not familiar with Puerto Rican cuisine , it is worth a try here. We’re talking about well seasoned and fresh cuisine . This restaurant even has alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, such as sangria piña coladas . If you are looking for a place to grab a tasty bite this is the place. They have Take out if you are in a dash to dine or sit a while if you have the time . Breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert, they do it all well here. You will not be disappointed.“
“Came here last night with another couple. We always ask for Alex. As long as we have been coming here , Alex has worked here. He always greets us very warmly. We always ask for him specifically. He goes above and beyond to make sure we have everything we need. He also is sensitive to the atmosphere at our table and gives us plenty of time throughout our meal. I only got one picture as we were hungry! We both got the Molcajete which is our go to dish when we come here.“
“13 Gypsies is an absolute gem! Everything we’ve ordered has been a treat for the tastebuds, absolutely delicious! Like, surprisingly delicious. The cabbage is my personal favorite. The dishes are small and you’ll need to order a few to fill up on, so plan accordingly if you’re on a budget. However it’s well worth the cost.We are vegetarian and there are plenty of options to choose from. A couple other reviews have talked about being disappointed by portion size and price, but I think that comes down to expectations. Also, make a reservation - they have a small dining area and can only accommodate so many parties at time.Very friendly waitress who goes out of her way to create a pleasant experience. She’s attentive, prompt, helpful with selections, while giving you space to enjoy your company and food.Dress code is whatever you want it to be - whether you’re going to/coming from a dressy event or just want to enjoy a great meal in shorts and a t-shirt, 13 gypsies is here for you!Even after moving to Georgia, we still make trips to Jacksonville for a dinner date.I hope you enjoy them as much as we do!“
