If you love Japanese food (or any food for that matter) Kaeru is the place to go! Every item on the menu sends your taste buds on a journey. The curry fries and Boogie shrimp are delicious, but honestly I’ve had almost everything on their menu and have loved all of it!The staff is phenomenal! They connect with customers to curate the perfect dining experience for their tastes. If you’re looking for a private event or the perfect date night spot, then go to Kaeru!

As of today this place has about 227 reviews and with them an overall 5 star rating. Seems incredulous, but once you go, you understand why...For those looking for the short version, here you go: TL; DR - The vibe is simple and elegant yet comfortable, the staff is enthusiastic and heart-warming, and the food is quite simply incredible. The long version:I'm not a big reviewer, but every now and then I come across a place like this that calls for it. Located in a strip mall in the middle of Pembroke Pines, there's no reason why a hidden gem like Kaeru should exist, but here it is. There's no large neon sign to tell you it's here, the only signs are bits on the windows and otherwise you need to be lucky enough that it catches your eye on Google. The place: The decor and vibe inside is what I imagine it feels like to stumble into a quality sushi joint in downtown Tokyo (though I admit I've never been, but hey I said it was my imagination). The windows are blacked out, the music is chill and eclectic, the decor is simple yet elegant, and you feel transported forgetting where in the world (or at least South Florida) you are. The space is small, able to fit perhaps 50 guests, but it feels cozy and inviting. The staff: Immediately the staff is welcoming and enthusiastic, happy to tell you as much as you want to know about them, their business, and best of all their food. They have specials every day and they're happy to go through all of them, proud of what they've concocted and they should be. The staff is made up of a family and some of their friends who wanted to make this place happen. It shows and it's special; I can't help but think of the word "genuine" to describe the feeling when conversing with them. Even at the moment that I'm writing this, the family who runs this place has closed down the restaurant for a week because they went on a family vacation. There's something great about that. The food: I'll make this really simple. If you are a lover of sushi then you will love their food. The chef has taken such care in picking the food he will serve; it is blatant from the preparation you can see all the way to the taste in your mouth when you take that first bite. I may have uttered the word "incredible" too many times, but I regret nothing. This is a real sushi place, the realest I've personally found in South Florida so far.So why haven't you heard of Kaeru before?...For one, they're relatively new, around a year and a half in business. Also, in their own words, they've not been great at marketing so far. To that, I'm torn. On one hand that's bad for their business, on the other great for me and those lucky people who find them. It's like being in an exclusive club. But getting over my "finders keepers syndrome," I wholeheartedly encourage you, reader, to check them out and if you're so inclined to spread the word, they most certainly deserve it.Kid-friendliness: It's kid-friendlyWheelchair accessibility: It's wheelchair accessible

A Culinary Journey to Kyoto: Kaeru offers a delightful escape into the heart of Kyoto, transporting diners through both its menu and ambiance. Stepping into the restaurant, one is greeted by warm, dim lighting, tasteful Japanese art adorning the walls, and an overall sense of intimacy reminiscent of a boutique Kyoto dinner. This meticulously crafted atmosphere sets the stage for a culinary journey focused on the essence of Japanese cuisine. The menu showcases a delightful selection of dishes, each highlighting fresh, high-quality ingredients. We began our exploration with a selection of hosomaki, which are small, rolled sushi featuring simple flavor combinations. The cucumber, avocado, and kanpyo hosomaki were perfectly balanced bites, whetting our appetites for what was to come. The Ital vs Vital rolls, larger and boasting a wider array of ingredients, offered a delightful explosion of taste and texture. Each mouthful was a testament to the chef's skill and respect for tradition.Complementing the delectable dishes was a house-made miso soup that struck the perfect balance between savory and salty. The drink menu offered refreshing accompaniments, with my sparkling yuzu lemonade providing a touch of citrusy brilliance without overpowering the palate. My wife's lady lychee, on the other hand, presented a sweet and playful counterpoint, reminiscent of a Japanese soda. The true star of the evening, however, was the exceptional service. The waitstaff displayed a deep understanding of the menu, expertly guiding us through our selections and accommodating any requests without compromising the quality of the dishes. Their attentiveness throughout the meal ensured a seamless and comfortable dining experience.Kaeru transcends the ordinary, offering an authentic Japanese dining experience at a very reasonable price point. The quality of the food, coupled with the impeccable service and intimate atmosphere, surpasses that of similar establishments ( looking at you Pembroke Gardens) in the area. Whether you're a seasoned explorer of Japanese cuisine or simply seeking a delightful culinary adventure, Kaeru is a must-visit.Dietary restrictions: While there are Vegan options on the menu, Concessions can be made to expand selections for both vegan and gluten-free.
