My Pollo a la plancha was a little overcooked, and the flavor a bit tart. Also the mariquitas were stale, and the sauce did not help. Will be back for their daily specials, their fricasse de pollo was really good!Edit: there simple breakfast options are great! Cafecito was a little sweet, but the tres golpes was great! The food was amazing, perfectly cooked pork chop, rice was well cooked and the beans, oh the beans, very tasty. We also had a rack of ribs in Guava BBQ sauce, juicy and very tender, sooo tasty. “Home cooked by GRANDMA! I was pretty amazed stopping by this little hole in the wall. I didn't expect much of it because I don't typically go out for Cuban food being Cuban myself. I made an exception for this little hole in the wall. We were instantly greeted and felt comfortable. It got full VERY quickly. As we browsed the menu, we noticed regulars stopping by and being greeted by their first name by the staff. That's when you know, they're regulars and the food is bomb. The Cuban food was as close to Cuban as it can get, in the streets cooking for people. It had a very home cooked taste that you don't typically find in the "Cuban" chain restaurants many know of in South Florida ie La Caretta, Latin America etc. What surprised me the most was, I saw the cook coming out when the restaurant was packed and everyone was eating. Of course, you cannot guess who it was? IT WAS THE GRANDMA. Yup! No lies. A , what appeared to be a 60+ year old grandma COOKING the Cuban food by the book. She puts Nitza Villapol to shame. Jk Cubans know who that is. A part of me was grateful a grandma was the head chef because only a grandma would still cook with that much care for masses in a restaurant. The other part of me, the granddaughter side, wishes she would rest. Either way, I'm grateful she was cooking the food in this restaurant. For that alone, I would come back to that restaurant and recommend it to others. If you are looking for authentic Cuban food, Don Carlin is the place to go. Service was fantastic , food was great, restaurant was cozy but not fancy and the prices were still reasonable for this day and age.“

“We were in town, staying at a nearby hotel and found this great bakery that opened at 6:00am. We went in the morning to get a Cafe con Leche and some other goodies. The Cafe con Leche was delicious and only $2.80 for a large- can't beat that price. Actually everything we ordered was priced very fair. We ordered some Pastelitos- Guayaba (Guava) and Guayaba y Queso (Guava & Cream Cheese). Also ordered some Carne (Ground Beef) Empanadas and Papas Rellenas. Everything was so good- we ended up going back the next morning! We basically got the same items and also some Croquetas Jamon. I noticed the Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice is a hit. They were squeezing the oranges while we were there and they were selling quick. The employees are super friendly and happy to answer any questions. Upbeat atmosphere, you can tell they have regulars but are welcoming to all. It was busy both mornings we went, but the employees have a sense of urgency so the line goes real quick. A couple seats inside as well as a few tables outside but mainly people were getting food to go. I wish I had a place like this at home- open early, good food and drink at great prices, and friendly service.“

“So I live close to this place and I’ve ordered on several different occasions for lunch and they have not failed me. From bowls to the chicken sandwich. That you think how good can a chicken sandwich possibly be it’s so plain. But I was very wrong! The chicken is tasty and the mix of everything they put on it all together is fantastic!! “I feel like I hit the Cuban cafe motherlode. It's a grocery truck stop in the middle of nowhere feeding FtL and Davie city workers (Fire, Police, municipal). It's dirt cheap. The pan con lechon I had was stuffed with pork with a great mojo, she asked if I wanted mayo on it and I said yes. Omg so good. Reminds me of a beat up old poboy shop in New Orleans. Sandwich, 2 big empanadas and 3 20oz Ting grapefruit sodas from Jamaica (my fave) was $21.40 with tax.“
“Love this place. I’ve been dining here for at least 10 years and still going. Sometimes the service on the sit down part of the restaurant isn’t so great but the bar area is usually solid. The service started declining after covid so I believe it’s just under staffed but the food does not disappoint.“
