I wanted to like this place more than I did. We came here for a friend's birthday dinner. As a true southerner, I found many of their southern offerings lacked depth. The salt and pepper okra is the best thing on the menu (the portion sizes are pretty large, so enjoy this as a shareable appetizer). The BBQ ribs and Chicken and Waffles were good as well. The problem on this evening was the service. For a party of 5 adults and 2 children, we waited for over 45 minutes just to get served drinks. The entire dinner took over 2.5 hours with us waiting for the food for a majority of that time. Thankfully, we were celebrating a friend's birthday, so we enjoyed our time together. Due to the poor service, I will probably not come here again unless someone specifically requests it.Food: 4/5Service: 2/5Atmosphere: 3/5Price: 3/5OVERALL: 3/5

Went on a Sunday not realizing it was a brunch buffet only. The cost was about $30 a person and the food was ok. There was a big party already seated but hardly anyone else. They had a small band playing which was nice however it was a very loud and seemed to take away from spending time with the person I was having my meal with. As our meal went on the large group got wasted on mimosas to the point they decided to take part in singing with the band. Yes, actually got up and took a microphone. I felt it tasteless and management should have stopped it. The staff was polite and did a good job with dealing with the drunk party but were too busy to fill our drinks. The chef at the omelet bar stood out the most. He was very friendly and made great omelets. I wish I could of tried items off the menu instead of food that sat at the buffet. Not sure we will be back we live out of town and made a special trip just for this place.

We decided to stop in on a random Saturday afternoon after scrolling through yelp for something new. When we arrived, there were no cars in the lot and not much movement around the building. Luckily we tried the door anyway and were greeted by two super friendly young ladies welcoming us inside. Once seated, our server was quick to take drink orders and explained the weekend brunch buffet and limited a' la carte menu. Both of us opted for the buffet. There was a nice selection of breakfast and lunch items as well as multiple sweet treats. Everything was super fresh and perfectly prepared. The fried chicken was better than any I've had before! After filling up with all the deliciousness, we stopped to ask about the slow business. Turns out dinner is the busiest time (y'all still haven't discovered that brunch). I can't wait to come back for dinner and check out the regular menu items. What a great neighborhood find!

Regretfully, we had to rescind our wonderful 2 reviews of Callaloo. Once a Great Restaurant with a Master Chef, Great Food and Wonderful Engaging Employees it has Deteriorated into a Mismanaged Mess. Wrong Hours of Operation Posted, No follow-up on issues or returned phone calls, under cooked food (nearly Raw Lobster on top of dry Mac and Cheese}, Smaller Portions, what more can I say. 4 times we have shown up to Advertised Open Hours only to find the place closed. Yesterday we showed up at 4:30pm with no signage that they were closed and a locked door. Sorry, Never Again Callaloo....................

Service was 100% perfect, atmosphere was fantastic, and the food was wonderful. We got the lobster Mac and cheese and the cornbread for appetizers. Both were super tasty. Mac and cheese is served in a skillet and was perfectly cheesy. We loved the cornbread. For entrees we had the ribs with super slaw and red beans and rice. The peach sauce was very tasty and it came with sooo many ribs I had to take some home. The grouper was okay, a little salty but the other spices were spot on. The grit cake that comes with the grouper was unique and crispy. I think the sides are where it's at, I want to try them all.

Loved the server and thought the drinks were good. The food was just average and nothing to make us "HAVE TO" come back. But,you be the judge and give them a shot. They got spunk and with time, they may develop into a force to ve reckoned with.

Based on the desolate expanse across the street and the slightly sketchy area where they're located you might have a little trepidation about visiting this restaurant. From what I hear that expanse will soon be a new development and yes the neighboring blocks are a little sketchy but the building where Callaloo is located is clean and modern with lot parking. Once you're inside you'll see a nice bar and a large comfortable dining room. The menu is interesting and I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered yet. The service is excellent and the kitchen is great at getting the orders or too the tables quickly and tastily. Callaloo is one of my favorite St. Pete restaurants and totally worth leaving the popular areas for the experience.
