We really enjoyed El Viruleño during our monthly Friends, Fun, and Food Meetup. The restaurant, small and family-owned, welcomed our group of 10 with warmth. The highlight was undoubtedly the Papusas meal, our group favorite. Freshly made and served with beans and rice, it delighted everyone. Also, the Pollo Guisado —a succulent chicken leg cooked in a flavorful tomato-based sauce- was delicioso!. We appreciated the option to swap beans for fried plantains. The friendly and knowledgeable server made our dining experience even better, and we enjoyed exploring the updated menu (as of Feb. 24 see Photos) with its periodic changes. One delightful surprise was the chance to practice Spanish as some Specials lacked translations.Overall, El Viruleño offers delicious Salvadorian & Central American cuisine in a cozy atmosphere.. We highly recommend checking it out!

Tried this place for the first time and was very impressed. It's casual inside but the service is top notch. Great menu with something for everyone but I had to try the chicken and cheese pupusas. They were absolutely delicious, and the red salsa that accompanied them provided just the right amount of spice. I was not a fan of the cheese dip, I found it to be very watery but I'll definitely order the guacamole next time.

Food was so bland and awful. Everything was greasy, the Asada tacos were all fat and I had a giant tendon in one of my tacos that wasn't edible. The place was dumpy too it felt like no one's cares about the places appearance. It's not even that cheap you can get better quality food at other places in Tallahassee. Very disappointing considering it has decent reviews on a quick google search. Service was fine there was no one there so it wasn't busy. I asked what was good and the server had no input or recommendations.

I love this place! The food is delicious, and the staff is friendly. The prices are very reasonable—two people can eat for under $40. This hidden gem is one of my favorite places in Tallahassee.

Ordered:1) Horchata- watery and needed more cinnamon & condensed milk2) Plantains with crema & frijoles- good overall wish it was brought out as an appetizer.3) 4 pupusas revueltas, 1 loroco y queso & 1 Pollo y queso (all maiz)----- the pupusas are small & thin, little stuffing, & practically no cheese. The star of the plate was the curtido & salsa de tomate that accompanied the pupusas because of consistency & spice.Service: Greeted upon walking in & server took order quickly. Didn't see her until the food was dropped off and then never again. She was nice though when we did interact.Overall: Open seating style and clean.

I ordered the chicken and cheese pupsa plate with rice and beans. I'm not typically a rice fan, but this rice had lots of flavor! The beans weren't dry and pasty like most places. I forgot to take a picture when our plates first came out, but I did take one lolWe also ordered the chips and guacamole. They make their chips when you order them so don't expect them to come right out when you order. I could have eaten just the chips and guac!! It was so good!

I can't tell you how many times I keep coming here and can't stop wanting pupusas. The meal with the rice and re-fried beans and that cabbage is the most delicious combination of Central American food I've had. All the food looks and tastes great with good service I have to say this is my go to Taqueria around town.

Every single item was absolutely delicious, truly great combinations of flavors, ingredients, and options. Menus you may see pictured online vs website vs the online ordering app vary greatly, so if you are ordering to-go, I'd advise calling first (helps if you speak Spanish). They went above and beyond to call me back to make sure my orders were just right since the app is more limited. This place is truly unique compared to any other restaurant with comparable cuisines in town. Authentic, flavorful, not a bland item in sight - and do not miss out on their horchata!!
