In the strip mall at NE corner of New Haven and Wickham is the carry-out only, Asian Express. I have recently tried their pork lo mien and egg drop soup twice now. The first time was the best pork lo mien I've sampled in the area, offering plenty of slices of pork and juicy noodles and veggies. The egg drop soup was above average and the best I've ever been presented. Their noodles were not crispy. I called and told them about that. Today I visited the second time. I tried to call their number to order ahead. No answer. I had the same result the first visit. Went to the Asian Express and placed my order through the plexiglas. Got home and found no hot and spicy oil container that I had requested, for my pork lo mien. I was glad to see they had upgraded their soup noodles to a crispier bag of noodles. The egg drop soup was as good as before. The pork lo mien was a bit disappointing as it was not as juicy, nor as full of pork and veggies, plus the noodles and entire entree a bit dry. To top it off, I had asked for a side of hot and spicy oil container. No oil in the take home when I got home. May have been a language barrier.

The food was marginal, at best. It lacked flavor but there was enough of it. Covid protocols were spot on but that's not enough to endure marginal food.

Really no complaints. Food was above average. Shrimp was actually good - I rarely get shrimp with Chinese takeout bc it's usually weird and slimy, but it was good here. Very generous portions. Only complaint was one dish was requested as extra spicy and while it was spicy, it definitely could've been spicier. Easy to order online. Picking up here was possibly the safest experience I've encountered since the pandemic began. Will be back.

We ordered lo mein, shrimp fried rice, egg rolls and chicken teriyaki. Absolutely awful meal! The worst!! Fried rice was cooked with oil that was rancid and had the most horrible smell. Egg rolls were dripping with grease when I took them out of the bag. Chicken teriyaki was hard and overcooked. $35 down the drain! They don't include any of the sauces when they deliver. No utensils or chop sticks. What the heck!!! The food is in the garbage! We will never go there again. What a waste of money! AVOID THIS BUSINESS AT ALL COST!

Some of the tastier Chinese food in the area ,Ive eaten here several times and its been consistently above average ,vegetables in dishes are never overcooked or soggy , sauces are right what they should be for example garlic sauce should have a slight sweet to it though some places in the area make it like candy ,shrimp are cooked perfectly, haven't tried any sushi here though it was on the menu ......really like this place , normally they have a few tables but due to covid they're only doing takeout

They have new owners and I've been here a few times since it's near my house. The food tastes like your typical Chinese take out. Nothing special to go out of your way for. But I just noticed today that they charge $1 extra for you to use your card which they DONT tell you. $1 is nothing but it's the principle..it really pi*ses me off when businesses do this and don't tell you. I also noticed today that on their menu, the lunch special comes with an egg roll or soup or soda. When I asked over the phone he told me only the egg roll comes with it. It wasn't til I got home I read the menu that they had put in my bag. If he was honest I wouldn't have had to buy a soup. And toss the egg roll I never eat. Shady business here that doesn't deserve my money

I was apprehensive to try this take away, due to the limited number of reviews. When I pulled up, I was even more skeptical as it looks a little dodge, but definitely give this place a try. The food was delicious, and we ate Chinese for the next couple of days as you get so much food. They even do preset family orders, which is great when you want a variety. I would definitely recommend this place, and will be going here anytime we fancy a Chinese in the future. I gave them a four star because my bill was more expensive than my order receipt, but didn't realize until I got home. I had already paid so didn't bother to query the extra 5ish dollars.

We love Chinese food, but we are always wondering if it's going to be to our expectations....I must say that this one it's one of the best if not the best in this area. The food is excellent, delicious and plenty of it. We ordered pork fried rice, orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken, and pepper steak all of them A+rating. We highly recommend this restaurant, I do not do many reviews but we had to do this one, can wait to order again !!!! Rusty A

NEW OWNERS, sad to say it, but I ordered my favorite Hibachi Steak dinner recently and when I picked it up, I received the new Beef and veggies with a carton of fried rice and an egg roll. It WAS soooo much better than makotos for such a better price and NOW, its just another chinese restaurant who didnt even cook the rice thoroughly. I am sad - they don't even have ramen anymore either...

I chose pick up instead of delivery for 4:00pm. Got there at 3:50 and the single employee in the building seemed surprised that I was there and the food was not prepared. I waited for 10 minutes and he finished the sauces and bagged the order. When I got home I realized that this was not a regular Chinese food order. No combo dinners, no egg rolls and fried rice size was minimal. The sweet n sour chicken had raw chopped onions and chunks of pineapple from a can and the rice was brown egg fried rice, not the usual yellow fried rice with vegetables in it. The General Tsos chicken had chucks of mango and and raw green peppers. The teriyaki chicken sticks were rubbery and salty. The crab rangoon were baked not deep fried and chewy. My family did not like this style of Chinese food at all. Going back to our usual place.

I've had worse and I've had better. I was really excited to try this place as the reviews looked promising. It was easy to place my order and easy to pick up. I was not offered soup with my lunch combo as their menu says, I was just given an egg roll. When I got my food home it looked delicious. But the key word here is looked. I ordered chicken teriyaki which was bland. The "fried rice" was simply brown rice and not the traditional fried rice with egg and veggies. I had to add my own teriyaki sauce from home to give the meal flavor. On the plus side, the Krab Rangoon was delicious. I will always give a restaurant two tries. So I will try this place again hopefully with a better outcome.
