Food wise 5 star

THIS is one of those reviews I do NOT like to have to write. BUT, if we don't write honestly, then what's the point? Let me start off by saying that we've eaten at this place for a lot of years. My family has had celebrations here. I've taken my now grown kids here often. I walked in just after noon, on a rare solo dine. There were only 3 tables taken up, not busy at all. THE SERVICE. The hostess was business-like, not very welcoming. She was also to be my server. During the entire service, she was barely hospitable. She NEVER stopped in to see how my food was. The closest I got to a smile was when she asked me twice if I wanted dessert. Funny, because I watched her interact in a much friendlier way with 2 other sets of diners, who I'd say are 'regulars'. THE ORDER. I ordered the Lunch Chimichanga, for $11.95. I asked for chicken inside. The server/hostess asked if I wanted green sauce? I said I usually get that luscious white queso sauce. She advised that would be a $2 UPCHARGE. (WHAT?? Aw, c'mon!). For me, a Chimichanga ain't right without that white queso sauce so I begrudgingly said okay to that ridiculous 2 dollar upcharge. THE FOOD. NOTHING like I've ever experienced at this location! The flavors were oddly muted, like they wanted to come out but couldn't. The small amount of guacamole was watery and tasteless. The portions were a lot smaller than what I've ever had here. And that 2 DOLLAR UPCHARGE white queso? Very thin consistency with about a 1% taste. A total waste! THE FINAL WORD. Based on this experience, PLUS some of the other reviews, I'm done. As Zephyrhills is growing, so are the opportunities for ever-better cuisine. I count Los Chicos now as a FAIL.

This place was a go-to for over 15 years. Not sure what has happened but the food is no longer seasoned, portions are much smaller, the wait staff has changed and not for the better. Finally cutting the cord with this place. Feels like losing a long time friend lol.

I doubt the owner is Mexican. the food lacks flavor... it's really tasteless and it wasn't worth coming here. If I go to a Mexican restaurant, I hope I'm served by a non-gringo Latino person ??‍♀️ since for that reason I go to chili's...(La star is only for the local) and very expensive for what they offer

Mexican, yes. Good food, no. We visited the restaurant based on reviews. With full respect, I don't think any of the reviewers who gave the restaurant high rating know Mexican food, my review is not based on food that I have enjoyed in Mexico but Mexican food in USA. The food here was less mediocre, especially for the price. Portions were tiny. I often look around at the surroundings to see how much the owner cares for the restaurant... That is often an indication of the love that goes into the food. Dirty windows, which my wife and I immediately noticed, told me how things are managed.

Ate here with my parents. The food was good and it came out quickly. The waitress was super friendly and very attentive. Apparently they recently updated their air conditioning. It was nice and cool! Would return.

We were out taking a drive through the country. This restaurant was a pleasant surprise. A quaint little place with very quick and friendly service and great food.

I had the Taco Salad bowl, fresh veggies on top, good guac, and salsa. The fillings could have been a little hotter. I like some heat with Mexican food, like in New Mexico!!

The waitress and the food was good. They say in the menu that you can only have one basket of chips for 2 people. Then they scoop the chips up before you even get a chance to finish them and you get no more. Then when you pay at the register they tack on a 3% convenience fee because they ran your credit card. We called after we left and we were told that there are tacky little signs all over. You should figure it in your price or get a new credit card company. Also it should be brought to a guests attention and if they pay cash you should take off 3%. Never heard of such a thing and we tipped on the whole amount. I bet the extra 3% does not go to your wait staff. Also phone # given on customers receipt no one that works there answers. I was told it was a back up # incase the first number doesn't work but they don't answer it. I had to look their # up on facebook after trying to reach them for 2 days. Probably tired of guests calling to question their convenience fee. We will certainly not be back~ Bad Business tactics for sure~ Too Bad~CUSTOMERS BEWARE~

My family and I go in to have a nice dinner. We walk in and stand at the door for a minute and see a sign that says seat your self. So we go to find a seat and the waitress ask me if we are the party of 15. I told her no that the sign said seat your self. She looked like she was overwhelmed. She seats us down, I seen a table that was by its self with nothing on it. I was trying to tell her we could sit there, the second wiaitress told her the party had left . Either way the big group came in and then they tell us they have a table in the front for us. We go out there and the table they had for us was not even ready and the people were still siting there. She said right in front of those people I'll have this one as soon as they leave. Which I thought was very rude to them. I was not going to rush them even if they were done. For being a mexican restaurant, they treted mexicans poorly.
