We pride ourselves in finding “small, mom and pop” type barbecue locations so we we’re intrigued by this place as we left Gibbs Gardens and we were hungry. Sadly to say, this restaurant was very “underwhelming” and the bbq was “bland” at best. We ordered a shared platter with bbq pork, bbq beef, ribs, baked beans and French fries and decided to try a side of Brunswick stew. The pork was fatty, the baked beans were out of a can, the ribs tasted like they had been parboiled and the french fries, after a 20 minute wait, came out black. Obviously, the oil in the fryer had not been changed for a very long time. The best item we had was the Brunswick stew and I’ve definitely had better. I will mention that the young people that were serving us were very thoughtful and attentive and worked very hard.

Everything here is delicious! And you can't beat the atmosphere, in my opinion. I moved to VA, and haven't eaten here in about a year, but this morning I have been dreaming about getting some BBQ from Amos on my next trip back home to visit! If you're within range of this place, don't miss the opportunity to try some of the best BBQ you'll ever taste!

A very unique place!Delicious food in a very antique place. The inside of this unique restaurant will take you back in time. You can admire the decorations from back in the days while enjoying a delicious bbq sandwich. From outside, It might look like an old dirty ranch, but it is actually a very humble, old looking restaurant. Once you enter, the guys at the register will great you in a very respectful and attentive way. There is not much room for seating inside, but there is also seating available outside. There's a good variety of food in the menu. But you can not skip the BBQ pork, chicken, or beef.... simply a great place!

Great food, love the interior of the restaurant. From the outside it looks like a hole in the wall but if you can get past that, prepare for some good

Place is getting super chintzy.Went to order large Brunswick stew to go and asked for sauce. They said there would be an extra charge for the sauce. Are you kidding me???Its not like you didn't already go up on the stew enough and c'mon you have the sauce which is free and all you want if you eat there at the table.Hope your happy because you just lost me as a customer who has come from the start.Used to be Amos had some truly well smoked pork sandwiches and the last few tasted like they were off a gas smoker.Barely any smoke flavor.Good riddance Amos tell the bean counters to keep the change.

Now I’ll admit, I’m somewhat of a BBQ snob but I’m also amenable to trying new things. I’m always looking for a honey hole. ‘Sides, I had a feller who seemed reliable enough recommending this place with some mighty high praise. Still, I’ll always go into a new place with little expectation, and as such, I ain't easily let down.Well, it must have been an off day at ‘ol Amos BBQ and biscuits. From my experience here, this place would have been more aptly named “Anu* BBQ”. Why? Well, if you let imagination roam, the so-called BBQ tastes just like you might expect bu**-hole to taste. Oddly enough, it was served about body temp too, hovering just above lukewarm. As coincidence would have it, my Brunswick stew was no warmer. As far as meat, I can only speak to the pork (which is really hard to mess up). It was chopped to a pulp and as dry as the desert sand. The only hint of moisture or flavor in the sandwich came from an overuse of bland and basic BBQ sauce that was probably nothing more than cheap catsup, brown sugar, vinegar, and perhaps a splash of liquid smoke. Oh yeah, there was a wilted pickle slice as well. One of those slices with the hole in the middle. Don’t you just hate that?Despite underwhelming food, the bright side is the restaurant itself is somewhat charming and quaint, if not rundown. It looks the part of a genuine hole-in-the-wall outfit and although it wasn’t, that typically means good food. It had all the parts and pieces to be qualified as such. The building is on its last leg with a sagging skeleton and hardly a board anywhere that’s level or plumb. I couldn’t tell if the old signs, hub caps, and antique trinkets were hung by the walls or simply mending the walls themselves. The kitchen area was at a grimy stage but in a good way (think Waffle House). It’s likely capable of sending out a good plate of food, but it will never get a perfect health score. The bathroom was on par with a Friday night bowling alley men’s room. The waitstaff and cooks fit the part and were as country as a dirt road. Probably not a lot of handwashing going on here, but that’s called flavor, my friend. Don’t be surprised if you see more “American by birth and southern by the grace of God” t-shirts than at a Hank Williams Jr concert. What’s more, the lady who tried to run my credit card was losing her mind trying to get the machine to work. Before she blew her top, I suggested that I just pay cash which I did. Later in the day, I discovered that my card was charged an even $14. That was more than the cost of the meal. I dialed the restaurant and was told that I would have to drive back up there (it’s an hour away) and if I could prove that I was charged, they would refund me. I told them I would be happy to text them an image of the charge and they refused. I won’t fight them or waste the fuel to deal with it, I’ll just dispute it. But that’s aggravating, especially considering the terrible food. I didn’t even eat the cold stew. What a dump.

Cool, old hole in the wall kind of place (dump). Dilapidated on the inside, but definitely had a relaxed atmosphere to it. The food was good, but I've had better BBQ and stew.I'll go back again anyway. I kind of like the hillbilly dumpy vibe going on there.
