(YANMI YANMI) out of all the food court stay away from this one. (YANMI YANMI )The people who make the the food are unexperienced cooks and the food is overpriced ! I was given hard, rice, soggy, oily fries, and Small over cooked buffalo wings with no buffalo sauce!! All the food courts in this place are good but this place ain't it (YANMI YANMI)

We stopped in for appetizers and were impressed. They have very good dumplings and egg rolls! Six dumplings and three egg rolls were $10.51.

Yanmi Yanmi is one of several stalls located inside the Atlanta Chinatown Mall food court just off Buford Highway. This business has been around for years, but curiously has never had a Yelp listing until I created one this past weekend. I guess it's not *too* surprising because folks who use Yelp and eat at Chinatown are most likely to go to other stalls at the food court such as Chong Qing Hot Pot, Lan Zhou (hand-pulled noodles), Hong Kong BBQ, China Kitchen, and even Top One Gourmet (Cantonese). Yanmi Yanmi is sort of the odd man out. Admittedly, its menu offerings are not nearly as appealing as its food court neighbors. I've seen this place described as "Japanese Fast Food," but I don't think that's really the case. Sure, they serve udon noodles and tonkatsu (Japanese deep-fried pork cutlet), but that's about it. I did see soba noodles on the menu, but it did not look appetizing at all. Like other restaurants at the food court, Yanmi Yanmi utilizes picture menus. They have pictures of dishes taped to the wall and they have a mini spiral notebook of printed photographs that you can flip through. Item descriptions and prices are handwritten. The notebook has been through quite a bit of use. It's got sticky, worn out pages. I felt like I needed to wash my hands after flipping through it (and I did). Along with the aforementioned Japanese foods, Yanmi Yanmi serves several Chinese dishes, seafood (mainly fish and shrimp), and soups. Some of the soups look like sundubu jjigae which is Korean stew with tofu and other ingredients. They've got fried rice and they also serve chicken wings and French fries. I guess that's where the "fast food" comes in. Most, if not all, items are under $10. Cash only. I ordered their udon noodle soup, tonkatsu (described as "pork chop" on the menu), and an order of their lemon pepper wings. These three items came out to $16 even. The udon turned out better than I expected, which was Nong Shim instant udon quality. The bowl was probably still instant, but it tasted better than instant udon made at home. The noodles were appetizing; soft and slippery, OK quality. The rest of the ingredients (fishcake, seaweed, scallion, cilantro, broccoli) as well as the broth were OK too. Overall, the bowl could've used more flavor, but it wasn't bad. The tonkatsu seemed a little overcooked. The batter was extra hard, crispy, and crunchy. The cutlet was served plain with no sauce, sides, or any other ingredients. Still edible, but far from the meatiest or most savory tonkatsu I've had. The lemon pepper wings were alright. They could've been better. Seven came to an order. The wings were decently seasoned, but the meat was disappointingly tough and dry. Service was fine, though the lady behind the counter wasn't helpful in recommending anything when I asked. She simply said, "Everything is good." Napkins, cheap plastic cutlery, and hot tea are available self-serve at the counter. A good bit of the stall's business came from takeout orders. In the end, I find it difficult to return here given the plethora of more interesting, authentic, and tasty dishes at Lan Zhou, Chong Qing Hot Pot, China Kitchen, and Hong Kong BBQ. I give Yanmi Yanmi 2 stars which on Yelp means: "Meh. I've experienced better."
