This is a solid spot. It's a cute old house we built into a café. It serves American/French food. The food is pretty good although it's not the best food I've ever had. The appetizers are amazing including the fried green tomatoes and hummus dip. The steak I got was good but it wasn't the greatest steak I've ever had. My friends that were with me did like their meals so I went up to four stars. The service was good but very slow, they may have just been understaffed -our drinks came out one at a time, and like 2 to 4 minutes apart which is strange but fine. The drinks were amazing. I don't really have complaints. I think they were just short staffed. They definitely keep everything clean, masks are required in your upper social distance and pretty much everybody gets to sit in their own room or there's someone else with you but the rooms are big. It's in a great location and it's definitely a place worth going to to check out. Cute date spot. Great place to go with the gang. Love the apps and drinks!!

FEBRUARY is traditionally a celebration of BLACK HISTORY, so I have decided to do a series of reviews each day honoring Black-Owned Businesses and/or places with significant Black History. 7th up is EPICUREAN CAFE, located in a quaint old 1900's home near Parson's Alley known as the Knox House. [ THE DETAILS ] Date & time: Friday, January 22nd, 2021 @ 10:45am Time it took to receive order : 9 minutes appetizer (18m entrée) Business level : light What to expect : Cute, well-lit & cozy atmosphere Parking: limited - but there are several parking lots nearby Restrictive COVID-19 safety measures : SOMEWHAT *Server had on a mask *Seating didn't particular seem spaced *MASKS suggested, but are not mandatory to enter Service: fast & very friendly Server: Brandon Outdoor patio : YES - garden-like Ambiance : great for conversation Dress : casual Health Score : 94 (A) * * * [ ENTREÉS ] + FRIED GREEN TOMATOES appetizer (2.5 stars) | $9 Crispy FGT topped with warm brie, candied pecans, bacon crumbles & balsamic reduction, but today the chef made some unexpected changes. Cucumber cubes were added, which are not included in the menu description. However, the bacon which is described on the menu was not evident, but it was hard to tell through the thick, overpowering chocolate-like reduction. Also, the brie cheese was replaced with Munster. + SHRIMP & GRITS (3 stars) | $18 Completely shelled shrimp in a coconut curry sauce and served with creamy grits and garlicky spinach (menu description). I was so excited to try this!!! ANYONE who follows my reviews knows I am an absolute and complete s***** for shrimp & grits. I almost can't pass it up if it's on the menu. As a matter of fact, if you do a search of my reviews, you will pull-up over 50 with shrimp & grits highlighted. This was the first time I'd ever seen Shrimp & Grits presented in a curry sauce! I was very eager to try it, but the shrimp were only luke-warm, which surprised me considering the speed in which it came out of the kitchen. Also the flavor was not as rich as I expected, especially considering the owner is Jamaican, home to my favorite curry dishes. The grits were okay, but I could have totally done without the spinach. DRINK(s) - Water Total before tax @ $27 * * * NOTES: Server charged me for the wrong lunch. Owner made me aware of the charge and corrected it only for me to find it was still wrong when I got home. Should have looked more carefully before I left the restaurant but I do believe it was an innocent mistake. She truly is lovely and very service oriented. MUST TRY's + Unfortunately nothing from this visit DISLIKES - Cucumber cubes & bitter sauce on the fried green tomatoes NEXT VISIT "WANT TO TRY" LIST Steak Fries Veggie Pasta (wife) * * * FINAL THOUGHTS I overheard a conversation with the owner and another customers saying the business may have to move by the end of March. Seems to be an issue with the restaurants lease with the owner of the building. I hope they can come to an agreement. As for the food, I was super excited to try it based on the gorgeous website pics and descriptions, but I didn't find the taste to be as rich in flavor as I'd hoped. However, if they remain open, I would love to give them another try in the future. After all, they didn't thrive in this location with all the surrounding heavy competition without holding their own. 2021 / 14 #BlackOWNEDBusinessSERIES

Sorry to be leaving such a negative review during these tough times. However, all restaurants are going through a difficult time, yet many if not most do their best. Sadly not Epicurean Cafe. Please keep in mind that I would love to find positive things to write. To start, the server just wasn't even close to friendly. The service was really really deficient. We had to repeatedly ask for water and utensils. The menu is very limited and that's not too bad except that it took close to ninety minutes to get our food. All that time we didn't see our server. No explanation whatsoever. She came back 10 mins before the food was brought out to tell us it was coming out. Before then, no one in sight. The place was empty. The food: sub par, to say the very least. Just not good, and especially after waiting so long, it made matters worse. Finally checks came and no "thank you/come again". Well no worries, we won't be back. One last thing, if you intend to stay in business, please invest in some paint. Peeling chipping paint everywhere. Sorry for the bad review, but this wasn't even close.

Ep. 30 of Antlantaeats First off the Owner Yanna and her staff provided OUTSTANDING customer service! We pretty much tried various items on the menu (check my experience video below) I didn't take a lot of pics. Steak & Fries was the choice of order. They did a wonderful job cooking the steak Bonus: They serve Beignetssss! Check my experience: instagram.com/p/CFX5VdVB…

Ate there with the family and it was definitely not a place any of us wanted to return to. Now I wonder what in the heck we were served as they managed only a 77 on their health inspection that just came out. A 77? You're not even trying if you get a 77. And during Covid times, a 77 might as well be a 33 as you should be extra vigilant. Shut it down or at a minimum fire all management. Owners should be ashamed.

My husband I came to this wonderful local spot on a date night and had a wonderful meal! They've been in Duluth for a really long time, so it's great to support local. We had some nice drinks and shared the fried green tomato appetizer which was like a salad dressed in a vinaigrette with diced vegetables. I had the curry shrimp and grits, which was really good and my husband had the short ribs. The rib portion was huge and so tender! Dessert was rum raisin bread pudding. We enjoyed our time from start to finish and would highly recommend.

This is a great restaurant to try, the food is delicious and the quality of it is well worth the price! We never felt rushed!

This restaurant is a gem! The ambiance, the food and the service are wonderful! Our waiter, Willie has only been there a few days but he was very helpful. We had the fried green tomatoes with the warm brie and walnuts...WOW! Best we've ever had! My friend had the shrimp and grits (which i really don't care for....but i tried them and they were very good!) and i had the Cod meuniere with spinach risotto....all of it awesome! and the seasonal vegitables......Nope, NOT broccoli and cauliflower but mushrooms, greenbeans, grape tomatoes and some kind of fresh pepper...very tasty! and what can i say about the bread pudding?? Just very good!!! You have to try this restaurant.....I know i'll be back verrrrry soon! and BTW, they apparently change the menu often which i think is a plus!
