“The lunch itself was great, not too many people in this area make pork this way. The desserts, including the cheesecake were excellent! I know some people don't know what good banana pudding even is anymore, theirs is excellent. The topping was a pleasant surprise, great way to get those flavors into a dessert without turning the pudding into a mud puddle. Overall great experience and would recommend it to anyone...“
“First time trying and I enjoyed it. Had the rib plate that comes with two sides, I chose the coleslaw and Mac n cheese, garlic bread and a couple of pickle slices with onion. The Mac was not your traditional type. Instead of cheddary it was Parmesan with a hint of what I believe was dill. It was good but different so just consider that. The coleslaw was didn't have a lot of flavor. Wasn't gross or anything but I just assume eat KFC slaw. The ribs were really good. Juicy and tender. They put sauce on the side, so I was a little mixed on my feeling about that but the ribs were so good they really dont need any sauce. Probably works better for the other meats. The negatives were that parking is not very accessible. But all of downtown Gainesville is like that, so not much can be done. If you're lucky you can get a spot in front on the side of the street. They could use two improvements though. A couple of more side item additions and a two or three meat combo platter. I believe this is the only BBQ place I've been to that doesn't. They could add one and easily charge up for the single meats were not crazy priced. I will eat there again if in the area. The place is also bigger on the inside than it looks from outside.“
“The food has always been very good. The service always excellent. It is pretty loud sometimes though but that's just most restaurants. Definitely a good place to eat. Portions are large too if you're looking for bang for the buck.“

I always get the baked potato with pork on top. the place is usually busy even if you go early. with any BBQ restaurant what you are looking for may not be available. it takes a while to prepare and cook the food. make sure you have a second option incase that happens. all the food is good.“
“Wanted a quick meal while passing through Gainsville. Spotted the Hickory Pig when coming into town. The building looked interesting on the outside so we pulled in. I had a pulled pork sandwich with beans and greens. My wife had a pulled pork sandwich with stew and greens. We made a good choice. The food was delicious and the owners were very entertaining. We will be eating at the Hickory Pig again the next time we are in Gainsville.“
“I would like to say I manage a election precinct here in Gainesville, Georgia and on election day I ordered lunch for election workers/clerks. Johnny's barbecue provided the lunch for us. We had ribs, smoked wings, pulled pork and chicken. With all the fixings. And I can say for certain!! The food arrived hot, seasoned and perfect to my order. I had the beef brisket sandwich with Mac & cheese with green beans and it was absolutely delicious. For desert I had their banana pudding and it was the best I’ve had in a very long time. “Holy cow... Beef Brisket and Pulled Pork were basically perfect, seriously. Potato Casserole and Coleslaw were both excellent. Huge portions for what you pay for. Friendly folks too. Hand's down best BBQ joint I've had in NC and GA.“
