I missed out on the YES event here, but I thought I'd give them a try. I DID NOT regret it. The staff was awesome, and the food was as well. Mentioned that we missed the event, and they gave us a bag that was given out at the event and an Ube Horchatta. We really enjoyed it and will definitely be back. They're located inside Palama Market in Waimalu. Parking is tight but well worth the wait.

I've heard so many great things about Straight Outta Husk and today I was finally able to try them out! This is definitely a hole-in-the-wall serving up big flavors! First off, I was blown away by the customer service! They were extremely friendly and provided great suggestions on what to order. They also made sure to check-up on us to ensure we were enjoying our meal. We tried the horchata, ube horchata, and the strawberry agua fresca. All of which were perfect on a hot day! We also ordered a Chile Relleno Tamale, Chile Relleno Burrito w/ added Lengua, and a Lengua Taco. Everything was DELICIOUS! You can taste the passion that goes into the food they serve. The Chile Relleno Burrito with Lengua was perfection! The meat was extremely tender. The limes and salsa also complement the food so well! I'll definitely be back!

Service was fast and friendly! The food tasted fresh and homemade. I had the tamale bowl, birria tacos and pineapple tamale. Everything tasted so good! Definitely gonna go again and try the mole and rice tacos.

I was really excited to try this gem, and was not disappointed. Located in Palama Market in the Waimalu Shopping Center, there is a take out window to place your order and you can enjoy your meal eating inside on tables they share with the market. They have a menu outside; however for the cost, check out their website. I believe that for the quality of the food (and made from scratch), the prices are reasonable. I'll start off by saying that the staff are super friendly and very helpful. Since it was our first time there (4 of us), I asked for recommendations. The lady at the register said she loved the legua quesadilla and legua taco. I took her advice and ordered the taco plus I couldn't resist ordering a horchata. My daughter and hubby shared a poblano and cheese burrito and added legua. It was a smart idea they shared because that burrito was super stuffed. I tried a bite...and then another..and then another lol. I reminded myself that it was not my order haha. My mother-in-law tried the chili relleno tamale with rice and beans and she also liked her food. It was so big that she only ate half and saved the rest for another meal. We also tried the ube horchata and the strawberry agua Fresco. I liked the subtleness of the ube in the drink. The fresco was very refreshing. So glad that we decided to finally try this place. Looking forward to tasting more amazing dishes next time.

Tucked on the side of Palama Market with a window facing the outside walkway is Straight Outta Husk. There's a lot of seating inside Palama Market so I took a seat and ate inside while I watched it rain outside. On the A-frame sign was chalked out the items of the day. I saw carne asada, chicken (something...), and birria tacos, horchata, and elote. So of course I ordered one of each! lol I pig out when I see a place that's hard to get. Their online menu listed the prices, but the A-frame menu outside did not, so I was a little surprised at the bill, but I could have easily asked the cashier, so that's on me and anyways I wanted to try as much as I wanted, so ya. I think adding prices would be good though. The tacos are big fatties, like the weight of the food rips the corn tortilla. I needed to use a spoon to scope up the drops of meat. This ain't your 2 bite taco. This is a 5 biter. The tacos are all topped differently depending on what you get. Great combination of flavors and hot sauce is provided to kick it up a notch. Birria has the consume. It's heavy on the meat but well balanced with the other toppings. Two stand outs were the carne asada and birria. Carne asada was nicely charred meat that you can taste it. The birria was also good. It was so fat and heavy the tortilla ripped from the sheer weight. Hell ya dude, that's a fat taco. Elote was not corn on the cob type. It was in plastic container, but with a good flavor. I mixed the hot sauce with it and it made it x3 better. Horchata - tasty and a nice blend. I would get this again. If they had Mexican Coke I'd order that as well. Worth a try if you're lucky enough to catch them open.

My Birria Tacos addiction is growing! Sometimes, like today, I order three - just for me. It's always so satisfying BUT today's was more than perrrrrfect in every way!! I'm so glad I ordered three. Thank you for the quenching and delicious Horchata! Finally got to order their Pineapple Corn Tamale recently (for family member) We don't usually go for pineapple but this Tamale turned out better than expected! I only took a bite (since I had my Birria Taco to eat). The pineapple wasn't overpowering at all. The ingredients all blended in for a unique taste. Family member commented that it was really good and filling. She said she would order it again, a delicious change of pace. Price was reasonable with a generous portion made with care. The warm and friendly customer service always make you feel welcomed and appreciated.

It's a regular fast food on Tues, Fri, & Sat at front window counter in Palama Market. It's not a sit down dining experience, just some tables & chairs at Market entrance. First time here with my friend for lunch. We ordered the 2 chicken asada tacos, 1 barilla taco, and 1 barilla quesadilla plus desert, a coconut tamale. Drinks were 2 Horchatas. Which I still can't compute how it added up to $62.00 since they didn't list any prices on their board. If I was there myself, I would have questioned their addition. Way too costly for what we received. I seriously think we were overcharged. The chicken asada was a bit dry, not a whole lot of flavor. It was heavy on the minced onion cilantro topping. Wasn't crazy about their watery hot sauce. There was no salsa or pico de gallo for the tacos, just the watery hot sauce. Similar watery oily broth-like dip for the quesadillas which was pretty bland too. Just meat sandwiched between tortillas. Barely any cheese so it was just barilla meat which was just okay, nothing to write home about. We're just too spoiled from living in LA and San Francisco surrounded by great Mexican food. The best thing was the Horchatas. The desert was a coconut tamale. It was lightly sweet but a little on the dry side. Not a favorite even though I love coconut. Overall, fair. I wish they would write their prices since we were shocked by the total. I could have had fine dining anywhere else for $62 rather than Mexican food. Bit over rated and that's from both patrons. We didn't finish the quesadillas nor the tamale. we tossed the rest. Re: Vile owners lies: Never requested nor received any refund, she offered but nothing was done. I did order an enchillada since you have no set menu and it's build your own so I did. I have never in my entire life ordered a quesadilla so yes, it was disappointing. Lets be honest, you not good at accepting any form of criticism. My friend ate half of the Q but the other piece went in the garbage along with half the tamale. So please cease from making up stories. It makes you look ridiculous, unprofessional and pretty sad. People are probably afraid to be honest since you're so evil. Try being nice. And unless you have xray vision through a wall, it's impossible for you to have watched us. Unbelievable! Yelp should close your account for being unprofessional. You lost 2 more stars. Negative stars would be the truth at this point.

So excited that they opened nearby where I work. Eating here is something that I can look forward to! I've tried their regular horchata & mole tacos. Delicious food and efficient service! I do wish it was a little spicier but that's nit-picking. The workers were friendly both visits. Still have to try their ube horchata & birria tacos.

Oh my goodness found this place via yelp and I absolutely love it! They are connected to Palama Market, hard to spot if you don't know what to look for as there is no sign on the restaurant. Order in front before entering the market, there are table to wait at right inside. Food is amazing, loved the birria quesadilla it was so yummy! The ladies working there are super sweet and you can see them working so hard to get the food out to their customers from their open kitchen. After living in San Diego for a couple of years, I've been looking for good Mexican food for years now. So nice to find this place, I just wish they were opened more often so I have more opportunities to go lol!

This place is an absolute must to try! Ordered the chile relleno tamale plate and it was delicious and oh don't forget the horchata, yum! Very well seasoned and fulfilling. Shout out to Carla and the entire staff for their great service, we'll be back.

If you have lived in Hawaii for long enough to know that good authentic Mexican food is hard to come by. Straight Outta Husk Mexican food is ran by an actual Chicano family from Los Angeles, so you know this place is the real deal. Even walking up to their shop attached to the Palama Market Place, you can see, smell, and even hear the authenticity. How they decorate their shop, the people working there, the smell of the food cooking, and even the music they listen to while working. I had the birria burrito, birria tacos, elote, and horchata that they make themselves. Just one bite into the burrito brought me back to after classes in highschool just scrounging together a few bucks for a burrito from the local joint in LA. If you want what's good, this is the place.

From SoCal, but now live in Hawaii. If you want some authentic Cali style Mexican food, then this is the spot. Legit a taste of home, away from home.
