100% stop here for bbq. Homeboy whipped up a bamboo log of scrumptoulioumus pork, chicken, rice and greens. Definitely a dope experience and I even ate it while sitting in an abandoned bus whilest a sweet cute puppy came up and asked for lovings from us. If you’re going on the road to Hana this is the place to go? make sure you tip them on top of cost, making bbq is not easy work!

The combo was delicious - BBQ pork (also chicken when available) with rice and salad, a coconut, and pineapple slices - all for $25 (cash only). A great lunch spot on the road to Hana. Also an eating area in an old trolley which was good shelter from the rain.

This was a delicious and awesome experience! We got a plate with bbq chicken and pork, served on a banana leaf with rice and salad. Additionally we got a coconut, passion fruit, pineapple, and papaya. Everything felt authentic, and the staff were very friendly and engaging. Well worth the stop, this was just the pick-me-up we needed!

Such an awesome stop! My husband and I loved the food, it was fun to stop at all the smaller places like this one and eat food out of a banana

Update: Previous chef/owner started a food truck. My review represents our experience with the previous owner Chef Chewy. Check out his truck! Alpha Aina BBQ , 2250 Hana Hwy, Haiku, HI 96708 . Highlight on the Road to Hana! Food was above and beyond delicious! Superbly smoked pork belly and chicken on a bed of rice. Fresh vegetable salad and savory grilled caramelized bananas with whipped cream and cinnamon. Reasonable price for food and also drinks if available. One of our favorite island memories on our honeymoon. We'll be back in 10 years and hope to see you again! Winners!

James was extremely kind and gave us extra fruit for the rest of our trip to Hana. Would definitely recommend stopping at his shack!

We had the chicken and pork — both were delicious. The fern salad was great, and hard to believe it’s just local ferns growing wild. We also loved it that all of the “packaging” were local natural products — food was served on a banana tree chute, chopsticks and straws were cut from local bamboo. Lena was so genuine and kind, and she entertained us with interesting stories of the area and the people that live there. It was the most genuine experience we had on Maui. Please remember to bring cash. There’s no internet or phone service out there.

My boyfriend and I stopped here after following the smells from around the corner while driving Hana. We were so glad we did! The chicken and pork combo was big enough for 2 of us to share. The veggies and fern salad were so fresh. On top of that it’s a one hardworking man show who does everything. My boyfriend said it was literally one of the best meals of his life and could not stop talking about it all trip. Bring cash!

We stopped by here during our road to Hana visit. We ordered a coconut and Hawaiian chicken/pork plate. After 30 minutes, we saw other guests that arrived after us get their food before us. So we asked the servers and they said it would be out in a few minutes. 15 minutes later, we saw other guests getting served that just arrived. After an hour, we asked for a refund because we didn't get our food and ended up wasting an hour of our trip to Hana here without getting anything. I know it was just a misunderstanding with the workers, but having asked about our food to only have it disregarded again was pretty frustrating, especially because we were on a tight schedule during our trip this day. The food looked good based on what we saw other people getting. But, we would not come back.

A smoke shack indeed… the single cook uses everything from Mother Nature to make and prepare the meal. Only option we were able to order was the combo (pork + chicken). We then we’re told to sit at the tables, which is what looked like abandoned trolley cart. He think brought our food out to us in tree husks with two cut up bamboo sticks to use as chopsticks. Very innovative I must say. And for a smoke house in the middle of the jungle on the side of a narrow road (Road to Hana) this place indeed hit the spot for the meat eaters. Unfortunately, this place is definitely not vegetarian friendly—obviously. The meat was on a bed of spring mix, rice, and a few veggies. After we were finished the cook brought out a “leaf” plate of pineapple chunks, which was very refreshing on a hot day following a hot meal. Definitely an experience to try (for all you meat lovers)! I believe we paid $50 for two meals
