It was a great Chinese takeout spot though. It was our favorite on the island. I'm sad they are now permanently closed. If the owners decided to open up again, they'd have our support, for sure.

THIS IS NOT CHINA, WE SPEAK ENGLISH IN AMERICA, it's bad enough when we have to deal with people who come over from foreign lands to live here who want the American dream but they don't learn English and they don't take in our life style, We have to bend over backwards for all of them. Somehow, I have been living in Hilo for over 4 years and have never tried East Wind Chinese, until last night. After visiting Panda Express several times since it came into town, I was determined to find a local (locally owned, small business) Chinese restaurant to support. I hadn't tried many places, but now have my "go-to". Despite having a huge menu with anything you could want, I stuck with my (familiar) usuals which is the orange chicken, (veggie) chow mein and (veggie) fried rice. I also got the egg rolls. everything tasted WAY better than Panda Express. The orange chicken had a crispy outside and wasn't fatty at all. It even tastes great reheated (eating leftovers as I write this). The prices are great too! Had to give 5 stars! And I don't usually take the time to review places.. I also felt better about supporting this smaller owned restaurant, rather than the starbucks or McDonald's of Chinese food. I highly suggest if you are visiting or recently moved here and haven't tried this place, to try it! Become a patron and a small business and keep them alive! Excited to be brave and try other things on their menu. Don't think I'll be disappointed:)

Authentic Chinese food! They got the best fried rice in my opinion on the the while island! And. If you're planning on going there, I'd highly recommend trying the Mongolian beef! It is out of this world!

Best Chinese food on the island as far as my opinion. Best service. Best convenience. I love the staff. Been a loyal customer for 4 years and won't stop now. Try the Hunan beef, It's delicious!

It's American Chinese food, it's well done and the portions are great for the $$$. It's hard to find as good a deal elsewhere in Hilo.I love that they have online ordering, most small businesses don't do it, and I've never had any over the phone confusion with an order here.

Four stars only because you get a lot of food for a cheap price. Very bland but decent when you add hot sauce, shoyu or whatever you like. Usually two meals for me I can’t eat the entire serving. Lots of rice to share with another person.Decent could be more flavorful but can’t beat the price.
Probably a 4.5 stars for a Chinese fast food joint and the price point. Ordered combo fried rice and spring rolls. Spring rolls were fried to perfection. Fried rice was good but probably can use a bit more soy sauce for seasoning.

It's so easy to order over the phone and pick up - I don't even need to wait for my order to be ready. The salt and pepper chicken is sooo tasty, I keep eating it even when I'm full!

Very tasty, fresh cooked entrees. Great selection, including many vegetarian. Lunch special (with soda) is a great deal. Spicy entrees could be spicier, IMHO. Nice that they are open until 10PM!
