Happen to be in Chinatown and finding this bakery was a must. We always enjoy the ham & cheese buns from here... someone always brings a box to pot lucks. Bakery is located in between the vegetable shops along Hotel Street (although official address is Maunakea St.). Handful of items to choose from... and reasonably priced ($2-something each). Will return.

Have only tried 2 things from here- their standard egg tart and their pineapple custard bun. The egg tart was just OK- the custard was well set, not too sweet, and a little bland; the pastry could have been much more buttery/flaky. The pineapple custard bun was fresh baked out of the oven and was perfect. Crunchy buttery topping, soft pillowy bread, stuffed with lots of not-too-sweet custard. Will return for the pineapple custard bun and to try more items!

Small bakery located in Chinatown. They accept card now but it's a $5 minimum. Since I didn't have any cash on me, I got 2 char sui pork buns. I noticed that it's slightly bigger than another bakery nearby in Chinatown. It wasn't my fave. The pork didn't have the red color dye and sweet flavor I'm used to. I would rather try their egg tarts next time.

Used to be Annie's Bakery for over a decade. My favorite is the butter bunn covered in shredded coconut $2.30/ea and sponge cake squares $3.10/ea. They have fresh baked bread loaf, buns with ham, donut twists, cold butter cake rolls and small mochi balls with sweet peanut shards covered in shredded coconut. Be careful of friendly cashier, today it was the 3rd time she tried to over charge me in the past year. My total came out to over $20 for 6 buns. When I questioned her on the price she apologized and re-calculated to be a little over $17. Okay- a bit shady. Hmmmmm...you have been warned.

Have to get the manapua. Baked or steamed. Get there early! Delicious!

Delicious pineapple buns with custard filling and baked char siu Bao. The prices are decent as well. Friendly service. Only downside is the location in downtown Chinatown where the environment is dirty, crowded, smelly with many birds and strange people. I would still go back

Just by chance walked by, bought some goodies, and what a treat! Such a hidden gem, prices are cheap while the quality of pasteries are unbelievable! Check it out!

Came here with a friend who wanted to buy plants in Mauna Kea Marketplace. Bakeries abound around here and I wandered into this one, perhaps one of the only ones I've never been to, behind one of the perennially crowded bus stops. It's a cute, tiny store with pastries surrounding you when you walk in. I decided to get the Hong Kong Cocktail bun and char siu manapua. About $2 each for sizable pastry, standard price if not on the cheaper side. They were both put in a plastic bag and I wandered off to the fenced off tables of the maunakea marketplace square (confucius/guanyin square?) to eat. The manapua wasn't my favorite. The bun was nicely sweet and chewy, but, first, it was kind of destroyed when I peeled off the paper, and the charsiu inside wasn't really flavorful, vaguely sweet with a kind of metallic aftertaste. I love char hung sut's super meaty filling and this was pretty different--a matter of preference though, I guess. The cocktail bun--the characters for which are literally cock tail--was tasty though. I've never had one and I wasn't sure what to expect. It had a shiny exterior with what looked like some butter on the outside. It had a similarly sweet and chewy bun, maybe more fluffy, than the manapua, and also a sweet coconut filling. I'm not a huge coconut fan, but this had a subdued taste, almost more like vanilla than coconut. The texture was in between koshi an and the sugar butter mix on the outside of ensaymada. Very tasty and perfect for an afternoon snack at work.

They recently started making fresh mochi balls stuffed with either: 1)roughly textured azuki beans (Soo good) or 2) chopped peanuts & shredded coconut (great w/tea). Overall, they have excellent choices for a Hong Kong/Taiwan style bakery. Go get some!

Grace lives up to her name :) Behind her mask, I could "see" her genuine smile as she welcomed me into her shop. It isn't crowded or noisy at 6:30 a.m. so she excitedly reminded me that everything is still warm out of the oven. It was early and I wanted something to snack on before I started my shopping adventure. I feel better about having pastry if I know I'll be walking it off LOL Everything looked good and it made me curious which items were local favorites. She said the Hong Kong Cocktail buns and I should have known better because Popo used to always buy those! She also said Japanese tourists come for her bun with red bean like an pan; and the locals like the bun with hot dog centers. The custard tarts weren't ready yet but I did find a couple things to enjoy (now and later!) Grace sure did start my day off right, with her warm aloha spirit and delicious pastry. She said that a number of customers are there at 5:30 a.m. to purchase items for breakfast, lunch for later, or like me...a morning snack to kick start my day. And did you know they've been around for 35 years! Unless I heard her wrong? Now I know why my grandma liked shopping here! Thank you Grace :)

This little gem was fabulous! I ordered a coconut cream bun which was soft and delicious. The coconut cream was sweet and buttery and complimented the bread without overpowering it. I ordered the coconut peanut butter mochi and loved it! They were 3 for $2.49, so a good value. The last item was a walnut red bean pastry. This was my favorite! The dough was flaky and flavorful and the red bean and walnut mixture had the perfect amount of sweetness. The woman working was very nice and friendly and welcomed us even though we were neither local or Chinese. Tips: This was a cash only business, so keep that in mind.
