The bad first to get it out of the way. The parking lot is small and it's not easy to find street/metered parking. The restaurant was definitely small and where I was sitting there was a drip of water falling from the ceiling. I'm not sure that would pass certain inspections. The good news is the food is pretty decent if you're looking for a more authentic Korean experience. The banchan included kimchi, cucumber kimchi, spinach, bean sprouts, and two types of radish kimchi (white and spicy). I ended up ordering the pork spare ribs. They were grilled, juicy, and lightly salted on a bed of onions. I thoroughly enjoyed the rib and onion combo and the slightly charred flavor from the grill. It was too much to eat all at once so I had to take the rest to go. The location is very casual and the ajumma was nice and was quick to get anything we needed, I'd have to say the food was the most authentic out of the Korean places we tried on the island. And yes, they use STICKY rice, which many other places don't. I'd definitely come back and try some of the other dishes next time I'm back on the island.

This is my GO TO Korean BBQ spot on Oahu. This back alley, cinder block laden restaurant is a no frills spot that serves up some of the best meat selections. Ambiance is rustic, in a Hawaiian sense, and very casual. It can get smoky inside if the place is packed so be prepared to smell like meat and BBQ when you leave. We ordered the Jumolook and pork belly and both were great quality. I love that they provide the sesame oil dipping sauce without mention. All of the sides were very good too and of generous portions.Service is authentic and quick! Don’t expect much unless you’re proficient in Korean, but they’re a lovely staff.

I love going out and eating wonderful korean food, from the banchan to the sizzling meats, to the delicious sauces, and the fresh lettuce to wrap everything up in. I don't remember all the things we ordered, but it was a blurry meat filled experience, with I think a side order of soft tofu soup, and soju, and some beers. Service was decent considering how busy it was, it was what we could hope and expect in such a bustling place.

Authentic! Pretty authentic! I love they have very authentic soups which includes chun gook jang which I call it the smelly soup lol it stinks like feet but my husband loves it! Bbq was pretty good as well. Ladies who work there are very sweet and attentive. Try it out yourself!

The Owner Young is my friend. I know her for 35 years. She works very hard. And the foods are so good.

SOOOO GOOD!! Me and my family went to this restaurant thinking it would be an average experience eating out but this was far from that. This restaurant provides all you need such as saltiness, sweetness, and a lot more! the service was amazing as the workers were very nice and sweet to us. We also loved spending time together as a family and the restaurant provides lots of privacy if needed. To sum things up, this place is a must do if you are a local or a tourist visiting. This place is so great.

Workers were nice. They knew what to do. The Pork was good, the marinate was authentic korean. I wish they would at least ask to refill the banchan though. Cost is ok for what you get. Kind of hole in the wall style. But I like how they use the asian aunts as workers! And the cooks all look like they been cooking for awhile. We got the Pork ribs and Soft Tofu stew. The pork was grilled very well and stew had good broth. It seemed a lot of people order the meats here. Private lot but it gets full fast!

Came here because my father in law wanted a noodle soup they had. This place is TINY and parking is limited to street or back parking lot with only a few designated spaces for the restaurant. If street parking, you pay at the meter and it's free after a certain time. Walked in and the smell was immediately bbq. Each table has the bbq grill in the center. We were seated in a back corner and waited on immediately. Staff was cordial and food was out quick. I ordered the bulgogi and mandu. The food just wasn't as good as other places we had been to this week. The bulgogi was not very flavorful. The mandu was ok, the sauce it came with had very little flavoring. I actually gf more flavor dipping in my daughter's soup.

We've been coming to New Hyung Je since they first opened. In fact, when they were still named Don e Don on Keeaumoku, we were regulars there. My family and I live a few blocks away so it's quite convenient for us to dine here. Food is decent and consistent, but service has gone downhill the past few times. One of the middle aged female waitress has an extremely bad attitude! She constantly tried to ignore us, and if we were lucky enough to get her attention, she would yell at us telling us, "You gotta wait!!" The restaurant wasn't even that busy when we were dining there. Maybe we were treated that way since we weren't Korean...? She seemed to be quite polite and courteous with the two tables behind us that happened to both be Korean patrons. Throughout the entire meal, we were very nice and respectful towards her. Unfortunately, it wasn't replicated back towards us. She was very rude even when handing us our containers & bag for our leftovers. After today, they have lost us as their regular customers!

I have been going to this store for about 10 years. I don't know if it was due to COVID-19, but the management has changed. I was a little confused, but it turned out a little better. Maybe the manager is a relative? I was also able to see the face of the mom who ran the previous business. The meat we use is very fresh, so it has a different taste than aged meat. I think it's a good place to go with family and friends. The price may seem high to Japanese people, but it's worth stopping by. I hope this is helpful.

My wife and I came in around 8pm on a Thursday night. We got seated quickly. The workers are nice and the place is comfortable with circulating ac. The food took longer than expected, but it was worth it. We got kimchi soup and salted chicken. They provided banchan (side dishes) which was good. The soup reminded of my mom's kimchi soup when she used to make for us before she passed away.
