Shopping in Chinatown, Honolulu, Hawaii... I had a few minutes before the mahjong gathering, so, I stopped in at Jacky's Macau Cafe to take a look. This takeout bakery has quite a variety. Besides Almond Cookies and Macadamia Shortbread Cookies, there are savory pastries with ham, the popular Pineapple Bun, pizza bun, and cold canned beverages to go. Amongst all of the pastries, the Thousand Year Egg Puff was the most intriguing. I bought two to cut in half and share between the four of us. Verdict: I was expecting to taste some pei don (thousand year egg), but was disappointed that there were some hard pieces of ? something ? Hopefully, it was dehydrated egg? Maybe I just selected the wrong item. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and try something else. It's a very clean and tidy shop. Service was efficient; and I had free parking at a loading zone since it was a Saturday!

A little bakery shop in the Chinatown area. I came here because I wanted to try their guava and taro mochi rolls since they were an interesting take on the traditional banana. Overall I wasn't too impressed with the flavors and will have to stick with banana. It's worth a try to appease your curiosity, and the prices are cheap anyway. No seating. Friendly service.

Where have I been all these years? The other week, I just "happened" into Jacky's Macau Cafe. Their bread items are soft. The black bean and char sui manapua is delicious. And their jung is awesome. All items are FRESH! I read the other reviews and can't wait to try the other items.

Sweetest little lady runs this shop! We made a quick stop to get some manapua, it was absolutely delicious--soft bun, flavorful pork! We came later in the day, so there wasn't much of anything left but I would've loved to be able to try some other things! FYI - this place is cash only!

Blackbean buns are very tasty and filled with protein. The counter lady/ owner is very nice. She knows her regulars and she takes care of them well.

Very sweet woman who runs this place. She speaks Cantonese so we conversed in Cantonese. There was a lot of other baked goods but I made a quick stop for the day. Everything was delicious and my family enjoyed them as a quick snack.

Count your change. Thieves in here. Cash only operation. I sent in my pre-teen daughter with $5 to get 3 pastries ($1.35 ea.) to get the experience of making a purchase by herself. She left with 3 pastries and no change. She didn't do her math and got cheated. Sent her in a second time and when she pointed out that she didn't receive any change, the woman refused to give her the change due. Lessons learned. That said, their pastries are fairly standard for a Chinese bakery in Chinatown. Nothing special. We used to go there for the butter cream buns but no more. Lesson learned. Make sure that if you venture through their doors and make a purchase, know exactly how much you're expected to pay for your purchase.

We went to this place out of pure spontaneity. Food: Their gau is fresh, sweet, soft, super delicious!!! About a 1.00 for a good sized rectangle shaped piece. We usually don't finish the whole giant circles, so this was a good option. I got a few for my grandparents as snacks! They love it.Their breads are great. Soft, sweet, not overwhelmingly buttery. I had gotten a hot dog/corn bread (different, but it was so good!!)Some of the other breads were coconut bread, cream bread, baked char siu, steamed char siu, egg bread, taro mochi, guava mochi, triangle cake, wedding cookies, almond cookies. They also sell canned juice, water bottles as well.

I'm always on the opposite side of Jacky's Macau Cafe always see it when I shop at the grocery store across and I guess I was too lazy to cross over to check it out until this past weekend, we walked pass the shop and decided to check it out. It was late on a Sunday afternoon, after 3pm so there wasn't any pastries left, as the ones on Yelp photos. When I saw all the different Chinese goods, Jacky's Macau Cafe reminds me of a bakery in San Fran with the custard. I love Chinese shops like this, since we just had late lunch, I was stuff and just wanted to check it out. I am not sure if Jacky's Macau Cafe sells food as well, when I asked the lady she didn't understand me. Looking around the shop, I see lots Chinese goods for sale such as almond cookies, tea cookies, mini almond cookies, mochi rolls, peanut candy, mochi rice, lotus cake, manapua and more. What caught my eye while browsing around was the thousand year egg puff and the custard manapua. Its been years since I last had this type of pastry. It brought back memories, when my co-worker who visited San Fran. gave me a box. I love this pastry plus any thing with thousand year egg, is my fave! I never tried a custard manapua before so this was the 2 items I must purchased. I sure miss eating tea and almond cookies, reminds me of my small kid days when my dad use to bring them home for me and my siblings. Today's purchase was custard manapua and 2 thousand year egg puff. The older lady who helped me was so cute but she didn't understand what I asked her. It is cash only, I hope they would take credit cards later, when I come back I have to remember to carry extra cash with me. The manapua are available in plain, char siu, black sugar, and custard. They are priced at 1.50 which I think is cheaper than other business. I love the huge steamer basket that holds the manapua, I like that my custard manapua came out super hot. The verdict, I really like the custard manapua, the bread is so soft, reminds me of eating the custard bun at dim sum, just that there is not that much filling to bread ratio, which I am ok with. The thousand year egg puff was a little different, but I like it, the outside is not as crispy, it is more soft, there is ginger in the filling, which I like because I love ginger. I enjoyed this pastry and will def be back to grab more. Overall, I am glad I stopped by Jacky's Macau Cafe, check them out,I know it is not Ruby's bakery but support small local business, I will be back to grab more goods!! #39/2019
