Mochi is so soft and fresh. There's not much of a waiting line early in the morning. So come early. Service is fast.

Parking: Finding parking can be a challenge. Not many stalls. The store is also fairly small and so there will be a line forming outside of Nisshodo - worth the wait, though.

Old school mochi store, making fresh mochi every day. Definitely one of the gems on the island and State. You can build your own mochi box or buy a pre-made assortment of most of their mochi selections. They also have pre-wrapped chi chi dango boxes. One is just plain and the other is assorted fruit flavors.

The BEST mochi on the island. You will not be disappointed. I have done my best over the years to try all the different flavors.

It truly pains me to not give Nisshodo five stars, but I lowered the score because of a certain employee who has been rude to me on my last 3-4 visits. The last time, she sighed loudly & kept impatiently tapping her fingers & pen on the counter just because I didn't IMMEDIATELY tell her which items I wanted. I also saw her rolling her eyes at me. And like the previous times, she was unfriendly & rude to me. She wasn't like this with other customers, so IDK what her problem is. I didn't appreciate how I was treated, especially since I placed a large order. I patronize Nisshodo for several reasons, mainly because they have flavors I can't get at home. However, after the past few encounters, perhaps I'll have to rethink things.

I have never considered myself crazy about mochi but still wanted to see what the hype was about for this particular shop. So glad we tried the fruit mochis and dango! They were deliciously soft and chewy. Dango was so good that my family said I should have bought a whole pound. Next time for sure! Passion fruit mochi had the least flavor of the three mochis I bought. If it wasn't labeled I would not have known what I was tasting honestly. Lychee had light recognizable flavor and melon had the strongest flavor. Chi chi dango, though flavorless and without filling, was still a standout because of the great texture that made it so fun to eat. Bring cash if you are just sampling a few items. $10 minimum to use credit card. Can't wait to try again!!!!!

Economy, Covid, economy, dang blasted work on Dillingham! I remember when chi chi dango was $6/lb for several years. I bought the variety pack in October 2023 for my brother's gf. It was $12. Today, March 21, 2024, 5 months later, it cost $16. That's a big jump! Oh well, it's my treat yourself week. The taste is still good. I just wish prices would not go up so quickly. Times are changing, and some for the better, others not so much. At least the taste of Nisshodo mochi will remain.

If you want the B E S T chichi dango on-island, Nisshodo is it. The taste and texture are consistently perfect; there is absolutely no better place for chichi dango. They also have other flavor-filled mochi, but I personally don't like fillings in mochi. 1lb is $12. If you call ahead for more than 1lb, they can put it in a larger box, so it looks more presentable at gatherings or as a gift! Parking is limited, but I've never had issues at other local stores for a quick in-and-out for mochi.

This is the OG! Always pick chichi dango up for family to bring to the outer islands. They sell it by the pound just for reference.

Nisshodo's is the Go To Mochi place on Oahu. Not a huge verity but still large enough. Everything is really good. Add Nisshodo to your special list when you have visitors or you just feel the need/call for excellent mochi.

We have a few good Japanese Mochi places in LA too but their Gyuhi (Mochi skin) is so soft and tropical flavors are so good and special! My girls loved the color Mochi so much!
