I am Puerto Rican born in my island raised and also cook and speak my language. This is definitely not the taste we use on our island. Most will judge without knowing but I can tell you go to Puerto Rico and taste our food. Taste is completely different. Pasteles are not made the way we make them in Puerto Rico and I can understand why. They foil them here and do not use the correct ingredients due to what they have here on the island. The taste is off, texture and color is also off. the seasoning is not near what some people say on the reviews. I was very disappointed that they call this place authentic when it's not. BTW, pastele stew is something they made here does not exist in PR. and we do not use black olives.

The best pasteles on Oahu!! Food is always fresh. Large quantity the price. Pastele lumpias...don't forget these!! We got lumpias with rice and salad plate. Salad was so good too. Awesome!! Service...super awesome!! Little far from our Mililani Mauka rez but so worth the trip!! Parking is a little tight but minor when you get the fantastic food!!

I must have been living under a rock, because I only recently found out about this place. It's kind of a hole in the wall joint with no inside seating. It's grab and go. If you love pastele this is the place for you. I didn't get any of their plates, but did try their lumpia. I got a pastele lumpia and two banana lumpias. I enjoyed both varieties. The pastele lumpia was filled with savory pork. The banana lumpia could have used more banana. I could taste the banana, but it was minimal. Both were very greasy, but crispy and delicious.

The Food was degustinly tasteles, The Cherizo was old very dry. The Gandules rice was shamfully tasteless, cold dry and old. The two pastelle was okay! It tasted way better in the late 80s.I would not waste my money going back! I knew I should have gone to Rainbows for a mix plate!

I eat here often. My favorite plate is Plate 7$11.001 Pastele, Gandule rice & chorizo sausage or Pastele stew.I get the Pastele stew. And the Pastele lumpia is ono. My wife likes the banana lumpia.

Cyndy's Bottom Line: Onolicious pastele and gandule rice!*Take out only*Call in for take out orders*Delivery services available: Bite Squad, GrubHub, DoorDash*Closed on Monday, Open TUES-SAT: 9-5pm, SUN: 9-2pm*Parking up front and a small side lotThe Pastele Shop has been in business since 1981. The owner is such a lovely lady, friendly and hard working. I wish for her good health and continued success!I love the nostalgic family pictures of old Kalihi. Reminiscent of old Hawaii untouched. There is a beautiful mural on the wall that is hand painted by ohana. The food here is so delicious! The pasteles are hand made by the owner on Sunday and it is divine! Besides the famous onolicious pasteles the bacalao salad is a must order too. The freshly made bacalao salad comes with the dressing on the side which makes for a good salad to your taste and sprinkled with a nice amount of shredded bacalao on top and diced tomatoes. *Gandule rice is seasoned well and yummy!*Fried chicken is perfectly fried with crispy skin and moist and tender in the inside.*Pastele lumpia - the best of both worlds..indulgent.You can select combination of items from the menu or ala carte. There is something for everyone.Highly recommend!

Service was terrible and the establishment was dirty. I didn't even end up purchasing anything because of both those things lol I wanted to try their lumpia!

I stopped by on my way to mainland to grab some frozen Pastele's to bring with me. The service was over the top, fast and attentive and accommodating. I grabbed some spicy and regular. Got to mainland, steamed up one and froze the others and it was delicious! I wish I could mail order from mainland! These are the best, very tasty. Highly recommend!!

Not authentic Puerto Rican food. Just like Elizabeth mentioned. Would recommend Coquito’s instead if you’re looking for authentic Puerto Rican food.

Mmkay, so it's been a few years since I've been to the Pastele Shop. It was one of my regular spots when I lived on the island. So, naturally, it's one of the places I want to visit when I return home. I anxiously called to place a phone order, the number online would just disconnect (obviously this has not been updated, what a shame). Fine, let's just drive there, with 2 cars full of people wanting to pick up pasteles. We arrive, there is a sign that says "Sorry Cash Only". Greeeeeeat, there's no way we have enough cash on us to cover everyone. We ask if the card reader is still not working, the cashier says it is. Ok, well that's good! Still, I wish they would have taken the sign down. It had us in a panic and they almost lost 7 customers.Anyway, after a few mins, we step up and place an order for 7 drinks (all the same), 7 plates with 1 pastele, gandule rice, and bacalao salad (all the same). The bill is over $100, we pay with a card and exit with our meals in about 10 mins. We head up the street and park, remove the ti leaf from the pastele and dig in. The spicy pastele is good, I think the masa should have been a little chunkier and the pieces of meat bigger, but overall it's good. After all, it has been a long time since I've had any pastele since no one makes these in the PNW (my new home). The bacalao salad is good although a bit on the small side and the bacalao is shredded very finely. It worked out, it tasted really good, but idk... just the idea of the tiny shreds was a bit of a turn off I guess. The gandule rice tho, it barely had any gandule beans - sad face. No beans, no olives, just colored rice. I ate some of it but it wasn't very flavorful so I didn't eat more than half of it. I grabbed my can of guava juice and it was warm - double sad face. Why they didn't think to tell us they only had warm drinks is beyond me.Overall, it was too pricey for the food we got. I will likely go back next time I visit, just to try it again (hey, we all have off days, maybe someone just fudged up on the things that day, right?) and hopefully I will walk away satisfied.
