I got the poke bowl based on the reviews I read. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed as it wasn't what I was expecting. The fish was fresh and poke well flavored. However, the poke had way too much onions in it. Some mouthfuls had more onion than fish, not what you're expecting from a poke bowl. Just as disappointing was the rice. You wouldn't think the rice would make that much of a difference but mine had way too much vinegar in it. The vinegar taste was so strong in some parts that it overwhelmed the poke. With so many places serving poke bowls, I won't be coming back here for one.

This new location is pretty hidden in the Medical School campus cafeteria. They have short hours but do online ordering and curbside pickup! The food is fresh and tasty. We got a few platters and butterfish, Katsu plates - all were very good and would pick this place over many comparable other choices!

Several months ago, Sushi King catered a function I attended. I enjoyed the teri chicken and toss salad. So when I was in my office recently, I decided to order lunch from here. I was going to get the teri chicken again, but then I spied that the special was karaage chicken with curry. Two of my favorite things together! So I ordered that, some gyoza (advertised as hand-made), and a can of diet soda. It turned out to be expensive - $27+.As I waited for my order, I suddenly realized I had not specified if I wanted pork/shrimp or vegetable gyoza, nor had I been asked by the cashier. I jumped up and said the gyoza had to be vegetarian since I was allergic to shrimp. It was a good thing I did, because they were pan frying the pork/shrimp version. The karaage chicken was okay, although a bit underseasoned. The curry was disappointing; maybe I expected too much. It turned out to be the same curry I make at home using curry sauce cubes. The gyoza were generously filled, but also a bit lacking in flavor.Next time, I'll stick with the teri chicken.

Husband suggested this place from hearing about it from friends. Went on a Saturday so street parking was good, paid the meter $1.50 for 1 hr. Surrounding street area is ok but noticeable homeless camps nearby but tidy.Wasn't sure where eatery was located on the JABSOM campus but it was easy to find. It was empty since it was a Saturday. Very clean! Nice variety of selection of sushi, dons and bentos. I had the special, Wafu Salmon bowl and husband had Miso Butterfish bento (came with a hearty miso soup). Both dishes were fantastic! Service was also great, quick and very friendly. Will come back!

Poor service! I waited a long time to get my one order. Cashier said 15 minutes, but they took half an hour because they were serving a group that came AFTER me. Cashier said 15 minutes, but they took half hour. I heard her FINALLY give my order to the cook and he took only 5 minutes to make my order!

I used to go to Sushi King for lunch on King Street when I worked on the UH campus. This is the first time that I've gone to the Kaka'ako location. I decided to try their Mother's Day Bentos for my wife, son, and myself. It was a really nice assortment of items: choice of unagi or butterfish as an entree, along with soba, chirashi (ahi, salmon, hamachi, ebi, tamago, and shiitake), katsu (ebi, nasubi, and carrot), green beans, and a manju for dessert. Everything was great. Sushi King scheduled pickup times throughout the late morning and afternoon as they are not usually open on Sundays.

Our lunch order:1. Teri Salmon with Brown Rice2. Chicken Karaage with White RiceBoth meals were very delicious, the salmon was moist and the sweet teriyaki makes you want to come back for more. The Karaage was crispy on the outside and juicy chicken inside. The flavor was reminiscent of tempura. Both meals are served a crisp salad with a sweet and savory Asian dressing and gobo roots. My wife and son will be back for sure as it's their go to lunch spot after enjoying the children's discovery center. The service is a walk up order and pick up your food, so just depends on wait time and how crowded they are. Lucky for us we ordered as we were leaving discovery center and our lunch was ready when we got there. The exterior landscaping is beautiful and a really cool spot to eat outdoors. The interior although very nice gives a sort upscale and clean college cafeteria feel. For parking we parked at Kaka'ako park, so enjoy the nice walk over ;-)

I came here to redeem a birthday promotion code. I tried to redeem it online but I wasn’t able to so I went in person to order. I asked the cashier if I could redeem my birthday promotion. Unfortunately, the promotions can only be redeemed after the credit card is run. The promotion code did not pop up and I did not receive the discount. Moreover, the card was charged before knowing whether I’d be able to use the discount.Usually this wouldn’t be a problem since discounts can be applied to the next order, but as this was a birthday promotion, it was time sensitive. And unfortunately, redeeming any of the discounts has always been difficult in my experience. The sushi is great but understandably pricy, so the discount very much factored into my decision to order from Sushi King.

Oh how I wanted to like this place. My parents and I used to go here all the time at their old location. I'm not sure what happened because the food quality just didn't translate to the take out at the new location. Not even close.I was deliberate in selecting a restaurant to take out a special meal for my Dad and I to celebrate his 91st birthday tonight. I had a lot of options, but because of the nostalgia and history we've had with Sushi King, with high anticipation I ordered the Ahi Steak (large portion with miso soup and California roll, $22) for my Dad and the Shioyaki Salmon for myself ($11).My poor Dad struggled through the dinner, as did I. We were both silently eating and about halfway through our meals, we both happened to look at each other with similar expressions of disappointment as we embraced reality. We both said, in practically unison, "It's so dry".I thought honestly, at first, it was my imagination but my salmon was really bland, dry and tasteless. Not even the radish and a packet of shoyu could redeem it. My taste buds were definitely not satisfied. My Dad, in similar fashion with a restrained graciousness so as to not offend me and my restaurant choice, kept shaking his head. Again, he said "It's so dry, kind of tough" whereby he picked up a few pieces of the Ahi Steak (which I had drenched for him in ponzu sauce) and gave them to me to try. I took one bite and agreed it was dry and tasteless. He was right. So much so that I couldn't finish what he gave me to try. What are the chances that both fish dishes were inedible? My Dad said, "But I liked the sushi".I wish I could get a refund, and use the money to try his birthday dinner again. After all, he only turned 91 once. I'm rating one star for easy online ordering in advance plus the curbside pickup option. And another star for effort. But I can't bring myself to add any more.I am not confident different dishes will yield different results but I figure a sushi restaurant should have gotten their fish preparations down pat. Unfortunately, that was far from the case. And the rest is history.

I think I must be hitting the unlucky streak coming out of Covid. I haven't been to sushi King since they moved from my favorite late night spot for jumbo platters near University I was relieved when I finally got a day off and ran down to the Burns medical school cafeteria in the hopes of finding the same quality of food.I did not. I was really surprised at the reduction in quality of food at the new location I guess the kitchen is smaller And now it's in a cafeteria so they may have lowered the quality to fall in line with cafeteria type food. My chicken katsu was dry completely dry and tough which is hard to do in a chicken Katsu The spicy tuna was probably the most surprising as it was both room temperature as well as having the consistency of someone ate some spicy tuna from the supermarket and then spit it back out on the rice and then serve it to me it was slimy and it really didn't taste good at all. My California roll may have been sitting on the counter all day as the rice on the outside of California roll had hardened. My teriyaki chicken even though it had come with extra sauce was dry to begin with and the side of teriyaki sauce comes in a little container but it tasted water down or not cooked as if they had just mixed it and not boiled their sauce. my salmon as you can see from the picture didn't have any taste and had a strange texture as if instead of grilling it on a charcoal they microwaved it. My original intention was to go down there and see how they were handling the party platters as I have Father's Day and a whole bunch of graduation festivities coming up but after Eating the food they serve for lunch I think I'm gonna pass on the party platters.

Glad to see Sushi King reopened, was curious to give it a try. We weren't sure where to park so ended up @ Kakaako waterfront park and walked over, it was easy to find. It's cafeteria style, you order first and choose your seating. It was nice they had seating inside, though about half the seating was reserved and roped off. Food was decent, priced right for the portion. One of the side dishes in the bento was okra with sesame, it was interesting and really good if you're into okra.

Little hard to find as they are located in the UH medical building. Good, fast service with good food.
