Absolutely love their shrimp shumai (when they have any) I enjoy the sweet and sour pork, salt & pepper anything they have. The waitresses are attentive when you need anything & don't make you feel like your a nuisance when asking for anything. Their home made cookies and shrimp chips are pretty good too

Always go here to get my chop sui crave taken cared of when I come home to visit ohana. Everything here is good, and the service is always welcoming and friendly. The place is always clean and well kept.

My family and I have been coming to this Mui Kwai in Kailua for years - - - seriously, I remember my parents ordering from here when I was in high school - - - which was 40+ years ago. It's a very neighborhood-y, family type of place. There's nothing fancy about the interior or exterior. In fact, if you're not looking for it or don't know it's here, you'll pass right by it. That's ok because the emphasis in on good food and not flashy signs or decor. They have all the usual chop suey kinds of dishes on the menu, and also have the best baked manapua, pork hash and jin doi. They don't make them here on site, and only have a limited amount delivered every day, so if you want to be sure you get any of these, either come early or order ahead. When I moved to the mainland, my parents would order a dozen ahead of time and freeze the manapua in individual sandwich bags. . Still frozen, they'd hand-carry the box on the flight with them and stick the box straight into our freezer when they got to SF. They freeze super well and we always had a handy supply of Hawaii-style manapua on hand (the mainland char-sui bow is so different). Fast forward to 2024 and we're back home and craving Chinese. Haven't been here in about 5 years so we were curious and hopeful how it would be. In a nutshell . . . things were just as good, if not even better than we remembered. The mainland has no idea what cake noodles are. I miss cake noodles with pork and mustard cabbage so that was on the top of our order list. We also ordered: - shrimp with broccoli - crispy gau gee (oh my - - the absolute best gau gee! - - stuffed to capacity with moist and delicious filling) - - I went back the next week for a double order to take to a gathering - - everyone there said this is the best gau gee hands down ! ! - mapo tofu - choi sum veggies with oyster sauce - minute chicken - for dessert, I bought jin doi (they have both the black bean and the coconut filling), rice cakes and gau from them earlier in the day when I stopped by to place this order Everything was ready at the time I asked for pick up, and everything was hot, fresh and so, so, so delicious. We had friends over for dinner that night. One person remembered the food being good here, and the other two had never been here before. All 3 were blown away and super happy with dinner too. I am so happy this restaurant and the super people of Mui Kwai are still here and are as fantastic as ever.

Is there new ownership? Food has changed in recent weeks. This used to be our favorite Chinese restaurant. Now mediocre.

They were very understanding as I ordered from Kailua by mistake. I tried to pick up my ordered food from Kaneohe restaurant and they cooked it for me quickly. Delicious!!! And I apologized for my goof. Always very good food!

Kailua residents here. My Pake husband goes here a couple times a month when he's too rushed to drive to Chinatown. Pretty much sticks to his favorites like the manapua (baked and steamed char siu bao), siu mai, crispy gau- gee, shrimp dumplings, minute chicken cake noodle, kau yuk, and choy sum with oyster sauce. He usually calls and the order is ready by the time he gets there from Enchanted Lake area. We have also tried salt pepper shrimp, string beans and pork, and gon lo mein. What I'm saying is that the preparations are pretty reliable and don't change much. Probably most restaurants are like this -- people's tastes vary so when you find dishes that suit you, you keep returning. The owner and staff are decent, service is decent, parking is ok too. Worth checking out a few times.

This happened twice. I ordered stuff eggplant and both times I got stuff bittermellon. The first we ate it. The second time I decided to go back. When I said I am returning this I ordered STUFF EGGPLANT not stuff bittermellon. Now how can you distinguished the two?... the lady said I ordered bittermellon. So I told her I did not. Then she tells me they are out of the beef for stuff eggplant so I ordered beef sour cabbage. And I had to tell her is there a price difference? If I didn't say anything she wouldn't have given me any money back. She just gave me my food. And what really got me irritated not even a sorry. The lady just took it for granted I said bittermellon. I probably wont order here again. I'm sorry. It was a terrible easter
