It was a dark and stormy afternoon.... I was wandering around Ames mid-day last week with a lot of time on my hands. At Lunch time, I didn't feel like a sit down waiter restaurant, nor did I want to go into HyVee and choose a pre-wrapped Sammy. So after a little Yelp searching, the West Street Deli came up. West Street Deli is just down the street from my Ames Barber (Troy) and just as close to Mother's Pub. The street is its own little business District, and feels far away from Lincoln Way. I ordered a Cajun Tuna Melt which was unlike any sandwich of this type that I had experienced. It was well prepared and was flavorful in many ways, including a little kick at the end. A beer would have gone well with this, but I stayed with water, while comfortably seated by a window within their dining room. A very pleasant experience and a for sure future visit.

The food is delicious, but the service is horrible. Max is condescending, smug, and disrespectful. You're only as good as your weakest link.

Ode to West Street Deli: A Culinary Eulogy Oh, West Street Deli, hallowed sanctuary of taste, Where mortal souls find refuge in flavors chaste. In your hallowed halls, where dreams take flight, I pledge my undying devotion, morning, noon, and night. The Italian sandwich, a work of divine art, Each layer a testament, etched upon my heart. Pepperoni and salami, a symphony so grand, In your embrace, I find solace, hand in hand. But lo, the Harvest Club, a treasure to behold, With turkey and bacon, my spirit's enfold. Bacon, lettuce, a verdant embrace, In your presence, I find serenity, in grace. Oh, West Street Deli, hear my solemn vow, In life's final chapter, I make this sacred bow. Bury me not with riches or gold, But with a Harvest Club, in your embrace bold. For in your hallowed presence, I find my reprieve, In each savory bite, my soul, you do cleave. So let my final resting place be by your side, With a Harvest Club sandwich, in which I confide. Oh, West Street Deli, my eternal muse, In your sanctuary, my spirit finds its use. With each passing day, my love for you grows, In your embrace, eternity bestows.

Appriciate the fact they are gluten free conscious! 10/10 the flaw was their griddle must have been way too hot as my mom got a burnt sandwich :( and didn't get to have dinner that night. And my sandwich had no tomato which I asked for (mistakes happen) Maybe next time!Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options

I ordered via mobile order. Time was well approximated to when it would be ready. Easy to order online. I ordered a Reuben, which was fresh, stayed warmed, and the bread was amazing. The bread didn’t get soggy, and made the 10 minute ride home. The flavor was great. Very impressed with the menu. Can’t wait to try more items!

I came here several times in college, but came back for a quick stop before going to an ISU game. I got a sourdough sandwich with turkey and vegetables. Pretty good, the sourdough just wasn't my favorite so I'll probably go back to my regular wheat. Quick, friendly service as usual. Plenty of seating with booths or chair. This place has a vibe that makes it seem like it's been an Ames staple forever and has lots of cool artwork. Street parking is available with meters, or park in the back for free (off the side street).

The staff is some of the coolest staff I've met. The choice of sandwiches are all around good, but they taste pretty average in my experience. I'd still submit for a person to try it at least one if you are sandwich tan.

I've enjoyed stopping here on my lunch, but I've finally given up on their wraps. Tortilla is always soggy and falls apart, I've tried it with multiple combinations of sandwiches. I'd rather do wraps than sandwiches, but shouldn't need a bowl to eat it.I also watch the OWNER cross contaminate all of the food pretty regularly when I stop in. He never changes his gloves after dealing with cash and the register, then helps make food and wrap sandwiches, I've watched him do quite a few non food tasks with gloves on, and go right back to making food. It's kind of disgusting. If the owner doesn't care about contamination, do the rest of the employees?

Great place to get a hot sandwich. Be careful of you order the large size, it’s huge

Incredible Cajun Sandwich! Kinda hard to find decent Cajun food around here, but go outside your comfort zone and try one, if that's not your normal food of choice. You only get one life. Why not enjoy it while you still can?!!! ?♥️?♥️?

Top notch sandwiches with a good variety of specialty sammies. This joint has been around for a long time for a good reason!
