I was excited to find a soul food restaurant during our travels, and the reviews were good. They had a special dish that was fries, pulled pork, and cheese. I also got their greens as a side and an order of the shrimp sausage gumbo.I honestly didn't enjoy any of it. The pork had an unusual flavor that made me wonder if it was spoiled. The greens were ok, not salty or overly seasoned. But the gumbo really made me sad. The broth tasted dirty, and the shrimp was still in its shell. While the service was friendly, there was a waitress that announced several times she was having a bad day but would laugh about dropping dishes or dumping to go cups on the floor. It was very bizarre.I really wish I would have tried the fried chicken or the macaroni and cheese. The owner was very friendly, and I do want to try them again when I'm in the area.

My wife and I ate at the Centerville location. The food was excellent and the waiter was very nice. The food was served in to go boxes and I thought that was odd. But overall the food was very good.

Ate there with my wife and daughter tonight. Atmosphere was great. Laid back, great music, kind of old school diner vibe.Waitress was awesome. Went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The owner interacted with us and was really awesome. Actually gave us an extra piece of cobbler for free. The food was really good. I got a basket of wings/ drumsticks, big wings that tasted great, chicken inside the breading was juicy and good. It was the special so you get a basket of those plus whatever side of your choosing for twelve bucks. It was a great deal. I got the baked beans they had little pieces of brisket in them and were good. Had good flavor.Wife got the pork chops. They were big, awesome and came with a bunch of gravy and rice. Plus a side. She got Green beans as her side. Looked great. Also got cobbler and like I said ended up with an extra piece. We got some bbq fries to go. Fries with pulled pork on them. Haven’t tried them yet. Saving them for later.Long story short. The service was great. Food was great, especially for the price. Good portions and good food. We will be going back. I’ve worked in Centerville for years but don’t go often on weekends. And there’s not a ton of choices for places in Centerville anymore. My favorite used to be the Garage before it closed. This place might be my new favorite. I hadn’t even heard of it before we stopped in tonight. Glad we did.

I had a small pulled pork sandwich that was $12 and that did not come with any sides so the baked beans was another $5 all in all for the five of us including the tip we spent over $120. However for a $12 sandwich you think it might come with a free side. The meal was not that filling so the extra cost wasn't really worth it. I will say the service was very good.

I normally don't do reviews but I want people to be aware, the chicken was fried at least 2 times and came to the table cold along with cold beans and the fries were undercooked, and I got pulled pork and one of the bites tasted like magots. And the service was

Portion sizes are not worth $5. Their main location in Des Moines even has different prices for some of the same items. Decor in restaurant hasn't been touched from previous business. Food was served in styrofoam go boxes.Pulled Pork Sandwich was okayPhilly Cheese steak was over stuffed but onions & peppers could have been grilled moreHickory Smoked Chicken looked like it had Shake-n-Bake on it and lacked any decent flavorSeasoned Fries lacked seasoningBaked Beans /w Brisket meat was best part of mealRice & Gravy did not have enough gravyKen's Famous 5 Cheese Mac was tasty but portion size was smaller than expected for $5.Strawberry Lemonade was refreshingOrdered to-Go Ribs Done Rite but they were over done to charcoal briquettes. When I came back to show them what they gave me, the expediter stated she was questioning if it should've been served. So why did she send it out? I would have searched for a better set of ribs to send to customer. Replacement ribs were in better shape, but quality of meat was fatty so half was inedible. Attached is the menu and an image of the ribs I ordered to-Go.
