Food wasn't worth the price. Absolutely no flavor okay at best. It took forever for the hibachi person to start, nothing amazing. The atmosphere was nice and could be a vibe.

We went there for my brand new teenage daughter's birthday. It was our first time and we loved it. Our Chef was the owner and he did a great job. Food was DELICIOUS! we'll definitely be back.

If I lived in Iowa City, I would give this restaurant 5 stars for its food. I've been visiting Japanese restaurants in Iowa City for many years, and this one is the best for Japanese cuisine in or near the area. Our American friends love the sushi and sake at this restaurant. However, I do find the prices quite expensive. The staff is very friendly and adds to the enjoyable atmosphere.Parking: Limited parking near the restaurant. Free for certain time only. You can drive a few blocks, you can find the spot to park.

This place was always amazing. However, it is definitely getting wore down, tables were sticky. Menus need replaced badly. Good prices, ok service. Great food.

For Iowa City this is pretty good sushi, and it came on a great recommendation as being the best in town. The fish was fresh. There weren't a lot of options however and the prices were a bit high - but the service and quality were very good.

I dined here with a large group of just under 20 people. There was only one server who took care of us. Drinks took quite a while. The food was quick. The way that our bill was handled was chaotic and very time consuming. I have been here before and eaten at the hibachi tables, with no complaints.

Didn't like the place i came with a group of 21 people on December 16 supposed to celebrate 2 Birthdays but i did have a really bad experience food cold, rice toasty and the owner with a rude attitude and by the end with no show no happy face and not even good drinks that they didn't offer until i asked for them. I had to pay 52 dollars for a tip that they never deserved. Everyone paid separately and also paid a big tip. I don't recommend this place to celebrate anything. When you're recommended a restaurant, you expect something good and good service but in this place it never happened. I'm not going there any more anyway i do recommend Oyama suhi it is wonderful and the client is always right the people there is really nice and all the ways .

Dec 16th my family of 18 were expecting a great experience at the Hibachi grill at Konomi! Flames, train, food throwing etc. What we got was an angry upset cook that was also the owner. The “experience” we got was more of under and over cooked food with a pinch of cold food as well. As the “experience” was ending, that same Owner I would like to repeat OWNER of the restaurant gave the people next to us an entire show with a great smile and laughter. We asked the sushi cooks who were very sweet and that’s how we got the information that the person who was cooking was the owner. We were told that they had no cooks for the grill. So if there is no cooks why offer the hibachi experience for larger groups. With this being said, if you would like burnt and cold rice with a larger group be my guest. But I don’t recommend paying $30+ for no experience and the same food you can get at Taste of China down the street.

Had high expectations going in. Its in a nicer area of Coralville. Hibachi was full and we agreed to be seated in regular dining. It was a small cramped room off the sushi bar area. The menu covers were tattered and wet. Our server seemed new or did not know very much about what was going on. Overall the food was very overpriced and generic. The people who ordered sushi got their plates nearly 20 minutes after the other people in our party got their hot food. They were some of the smallest sushi rolls I have ever had and nothing to write home for $14 a roll.

The service was terrible. The owner was angry and seemed racist towards us.

Love this place. We have frequented it for years. It seems the food quality has gone down with an increase in prices a bit. The ramen is always a go to for my crew, last night, while the ramen was still amazing, the stir fry one of our party ordered was not brought out til the ramen was almost gone, and we all know how long it takes to be able to eat a bowl of steaming hot soup. I can say this was a kitchen issue as our server was on top of it and seemed more upset about it than we were. She was amazing though.

So disappointed. The whole experience was so upsetting. I entered the restaurant holding my 35lbs toddler who was clearly being fussy in one arm and a bag of presents in another arm. The hostess watched me struggle through 2 doors without lifting a finger to help. Then when I told her I was meeting a part she just pointed. They have multiple dining rooms and I had to go back and ask where I should be going. She still didn’t leave the host stand and just told me to go farther. Our server was clearly not trained. It seemed like he was not a server and just someone they found to fill in. He was very sweet and was trying his best but clearly was not trained in the least. Examples- he was not sure if they sold wine by the glass, couldn’t tell us was was in “clear” soup. He never delivered out alcoholic drinks and my husband had to get them from the bar. Sadly he forgot to put in an order from our table and they were not able to get their food to the table within 15 min of noting the error so we ended up just canceling it and they just ate bites off of everyone else’s plates. Our habana hi chef asked if we were celebrating anything and we told him we had 2 birthdays but they didn’t do anything to acknowledge it. The bill came and they didn’t comp anything even though they were aware of a major error. Again, the young people working are not the problem and this is not meant to target them. There is a serious problem with management that they allowed untrained staff help their customers. I felt very disrespected and walked away upset that I spent hundreds of dollars there to be treated so poorly.
