Back from a weekend excursion to the Quad Cities and I need to make sure you all know that The Diner is only a 2.5 hour drive from Springfield. No. I'm not joking. DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS JOINT!Cinnamon waffles and amazing fried chicken.Meatloaf better than my husband's (shhhhh!).Mama sauce needs to be on EVERYTHING.B&G with ALL the meats.Liquor! Now let's talk about the proverbial icing on the cake...The people are amazing - personality +++.The ambiance is home grown, bright, artsy, sassy, comfortable, and not at all crowded (even when the joint is packed & rockin')!The views out to the river are gorgeous. It's easy to get to from wherever you are (look for the Freight House and yellow boxcar then pull around back), and from the parking lot (ramp or a few steps then once indoors, elevator or stairs).May have to plan another trip to see some more of the fascinating river city architecture and to have another dinner & breakfast!Parking: Google got us there but we didn't know to go behind the Freight House building. No worries, was easy to find once we realized it faced the river.Wheelchair accessibility: Concrete ramp from the parking lot, elevator to get to the 2nd floor and indoors ramp to get to elevated patio.

Went for breakfast. Pancakes were crunchy, and sausages were crispy on the outside but undercooked inside. I'll give them another chance next time I'm in town because I love the atmosphere.

The food was very nice. I would definitely say it was fresh. My pancakes were a little underdone. But not so much that I considered a total foul. It had a very unique vibe to it. Decent music playing, but not overly loud. All staff was pleasant and very tentative younger than the normal crowd of waiters waitresses that we see, but all very professional. There's a little unique gift store kind of a thing downstairs. What's the 1 video is of just so you can get a kind of an idea. The restaurant itself has been. Done and restored very nicely. Definitely not what the building Originally looked like, but they did keep a bit of the look. So, you know what the building was originally, but it's very clean. very happy with the experience.

This was the 2nd time we've eaten at The Dinner. Breakfast was great for everyone. Service is excellent and the atmosphere is comfortable. There is a full bar should you want a Bloody Mary or Mimosa.

Joined the waitlist for two at 10:35 am and got to the restaurant at 11:11 with 3 people in front of us on the toast app waitlist. We were at 0 in front of us at 11:40. Between 11:40-12:15 we watched 5 parties go in front of us. One of 4, one of 7-8. Three parties of two. We left at 12:15. Watched people who walked in the whole time getting put on the list told 40-45 minutes. A complete lie. It'll be over double that easily. Feel bad for the birthday girl waiting and expected 40.Food is okay, service is slow, mimosas are good but take forever for refills. Wish it was staffed and ran better. Multiple visits like this.
