El Patio is one of the best for Southwest Mexican. Each dish is prepared special, so you get tastie ? dishes for your palate to enjoy. This is not your usual Mexican restaurant. Brook, the owner knows how to serve up mexican southwest style. Come on in and taste for yourself.

Very attentive and friendly waitstaff. Complimentary chips and salsa. Salsa had a good flavor but was a little too spicy for me (I have issues w/reflux.) Hubby and I split the special which was a corned beef enchilada. I was quite skeptical, but the taste was amazing as were the black beans and rice. Had a very generous serving of the Mexican chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream. I appreciate a restaurant that doesn't charge for an "extra" plate or impose a fee if you pay w/ a credit card. We are from MN, otherwise this restaurant would be on our "visit" frequently list.

Honestly just not great food. I got chicken fajitas and would swear it was rotisserie chicken - literally zero spices. I wanted to like this because it's close to our house but I won't be going back.

Both my partner and I got food poisoning when we visited last night from 5:40pm-6:30pm on January 2nd, 2024. Our symptoms began to emerge at 5am the following morning. We believe that it’s likely from the chicken, as the third guest we had was the only one who didn’t order the chicken (nor any meat) and has thankfully shown no symptoms. Please be cautious on attending here.Edit: The third guest had symptoms within a few hours following this review. Concerning.

Food was under cooked for one of our meals and the other was seasoned not well. Service was not helpful and very blunt, not inviting.

The restaurant's location is uniquely intriguing. The quality of the food was quite good. The service, although friendly, felt a bit rushed. While the establishment has potential, it seems that the ownership may be experiencing burnout. It's worth a visit, but improvements could make it a standout.

A Des Moines mainstay, El Patio is a family environment, don’t expect an experience like a chain Mexican joint, these are people with a history of customer service and a passion for delivering an experience like home with an environment decorated with art sourced from New Mexico and served with love. Recommend the blue corn enchiladas.

Walked in with a 7pm reservation for a table of 10 and had two waiters argue over who had to serve us, making it very obvious neither wanted to. Was brought to our table and we're told immediately we could not switch seats once we sat down or else it would mess everything up. Ordered a dish that came with sour cream, to which I told the server to have the sour cream on the side please. My food came out with a pile of it on top, and then my bill included an extra charge of sour cream (even though it was included in the meal, and I didn't even want it in the first place). We all ordered margarita pitchers and we're enjoying ourselves. The server came over towards the end and started taking the pitchers away, along with the chips, salsa and queso we were all eating, despite there still being drinks in them and us still sitting there. We all felt incredibly uncomfortable from start to finish, and rushed to get out towards the end despite it only being 8:30pm. Left the restaurant realizing we were the only ones there during this whole time on a Friday night. Will never be going back. So uncomfortable and unprofessional.
