Please open back up. Been going here since I was a child, always loved it. Classic cars, great food, legendary stuff here. Some of my best memories here. I remember when you could smoke inside when I was young, crazy stuff. I remember meeting and talking with George Jr (RIP) and him making my burger. Awesome stuff. I would be devastated if George’s doesn’t come back. I hope George’s daughter (I believe who inherited??) keeps it running. ❤️

This is a can't miss for anyone who wants a real taste of old time American drive in food. By far the best items on the menu are the coney dogs, tenderloins and onion rings, which is not to say the burgers and fries aren't top notch. This place was also on DDD, but completely lives up to it. Will never pass up a chance to visit.

CLOSED NOW! NO WAY TO TELL IF THEY WILL REOPEN. The building says closed and looks like no one has been there for some time. No indication if the closure is COVID related or whether it is temporary or permanent. Don't bother visiting if you don't want to be disappointed.

I've been giving my hard earned money to Teds.....and no, its not as good????I come back to Des Moines from Chicago on the regular and its been closed for MONTHS! I'm pretty sure i was weened off my bottle with coneys. Put on a face mask, fire up your grill, and let's eat!!

For over 60 years I make quartely to yearly pilgrimages back to my hometown to visit friends, the Iowa State Fair and of course George the Chili King. The chili dogs and root beer are almost as good as the heaping servings of memories that I always savor. Many of my friends,including George, are gone. The State Fair is cancelled (postponed)but simpler times are still being served @ "George The Chili King".Tip not included.
My mom worked here in the mid sixties as a car hop! dad worked at Riverview we would pick up mom and she would bring us fries and rings on the way out the door for us to eat on the way home! that corner was jumpin back in the day!! always great food!! unless you were at the pine room at Riverview!!
