One thing I found absolutely enjoyable in Des Moines is the grocery/restaurant hybrid. Since the overall food quality and quantity here is unsurpassed, this is a convenient option to save and eat well.

Only ever stopped here for convenience, would rather be inconvenienced than ever visit this location again. Worker Michael just told my boyfriend that his gauged ears (which are small, but that shouldn't matter) are disgusting and they make him uncomfortable. It's 2023, gauged ears have been around FOREVER, and thinking you can comment on anyone else's body is what's actually disgusting. Will never be returning to this location, or perhaps any others if this is the type of employee and behavior that Hy-Vee endorses. Judging by some other reviews, Michael isnt the only a-hole to customers. Just appalled.

I was excited about the wide selection but the quality is bad. Why is this place even located here? Ankeny has a tiny one with barely any options. Hyvee does a terrible job with their inconsistent locations and offerings.

My favorite Fast and Fresh. When the Fast and Fresh across from Bucs arena said their kitchen was closed, the gentlemen at the Merle Hay Fast and Fresh said "we'll make it". I go there all the time and I have never had a bad experience!

Ate breakfast here when visiting family. The service was great. The food was delicious. Our whole experience was perfect. I had my work mask with me and they asked me if I worked for Hy-Vee and I do, so I did get my discount that. Thanks. Will eat there again.

I was sooo excited when this place opened. It is a pretty store and has lots of options beyond basic gas stations food. However I feel like they have quickly gone down hill. They must not clean the soda lines because I think the pop tastes off (diet dr pepper tastes like red vine licorice). Today I went for breakfast and it took over 15 minutes before they started to cook it (they weren't busy with customers but they were doing other food prep work). Really disappointed and glad I have other options close by.
