My wife, and I, along with my kids, have been coming here since the "old days". Long before this great deli looked like it does today. This week before last, my wife Andrea, and myself, came in here for our last time before we move to Alabama in May. It was on our "must do" list before we left Iowa for good. We were blessed to not only see Rabbi Jacobson for our visit, but his very kind wife, too. I had informed them that I had been diagnosed with cancer during the summer of 2023, and his wife immediately told me to read the Psalm number relating to my age. Which is 56 right now. In fact, I was told to keep reading this Psalm. How wonderful it is to walk into a deli expecting to grab something to eat, and at the same time receive wisdom and blessings. As a Christian I have always felt blessed, and fortunate, to know Rabbi Jacobson and his family. He's always taken care of me, and I will definitely miss my visits to Des Moines to see him. Shalom, my friend, and thank you for so many wonderful years of good food and great wisdom.

The only place to get kosher meat in Iowa. It's an important touch stone for midwest jewish culture. And if he's not too busy, you can spend time talking to rabbi, Jacobson. He and his family are a delight.

Lived in NYC & NJ up to 9-11 and then move to the Midwest. Been in Iowa since 2014 and never knew about you guys! Someone just told me tonight. I miss my favorites; Sarges Deli, Katz’s and of course 2nd Ave Deli, all in Manhattan. I need some matzah ball soup and a bagel with lox and a smear! See ya soon. :)

2 weeks ago my husband and I borh had the day off and came in together for a lunch date. It was my second time, and his first. I had corned beef on rye with mayo, onions and deli mustard. He had the same except with pastrami. Sandwiches were amazing!! The meat was delicious and stacked high, and the bread was fresh and warm. The guys are so friendly and kind, we highly recommend in so many ways!!

My wife and I were on our way home in Arkansas. Our nephew recommended we stop at Maccabee's. We shared a corned beef sandwich on Rye. It was delicious. My wife also liked the cucumber salad. We also found and purchased two recommended books. There's a good variety of kosher foods available. We had a wonderful conversation with Rabbi Jacobson. Maccabee's will be our must stop when we travel through.Parking: Must park on the left side of the deli.

This is a wonderful Kosher deli near the Waveland area of Des Moines. The food was made in house and you can taste the tradition and care. The Knish were soft and warm. You could taste the schmaltz in the soup, which was so warm and hearty. The sandwiches were hefty and we did not leave hungry. Worth it for the smiles and convos from the owners alone.
