This is a wanna be classy restaurant. You can tell by the atmosphere. Also the food was average at best. The cod was heavily battered and not seasoned. The fries were not seasoned.

Came in to celebrate a birthday. Restaurant had 2 other patrons. We brought in a small cake to celebrate after we ate. The owner immediately said, "they would charge us $7 a plate to have cake (we brought) after we ate." Are we in California??? No, in a restaurant in small town Iowa with no business trying to nickel and dime customers to keep the doors open. How pathetic!! Now, to the food, ordered the cheeseburger for $18, which was Happy Meal size portions. Beautiful presentation until I picked it up. The burger was on a pretzel bun (possibly to try and soak up the grease from the burger). The bottom bun was so greasy it was like it was dipped in au jus. Ordered the burger medium rare and was char broiled. Both burger meals ordered were the same greasy way. Another guest had the fish, and the spicy seasoning on it was like eating lava. Their were streaks on the glasses, and I had to track down the staff to get a refill. The bottom line is that this place is pretending to be high-end and serving very low quality food with piss poor service. I give every place I review a fair chance, but You Get What You Give!!! You were rude, and your food was terrible and overpriced by long shot. Save your money and eat elsewhere.

First time dining here. The food was fabulous! There were 4 of us and we each ordered something different so we could try each others as well as our own. Grilled prawns with cheddar jalapeño polenta and coconut prawns were cooked perfectly and were delicious. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was very laid back and comfortable. Will definitely recommend this place to friends and family!

Nice little hidden gem with great food and great service. Classy place with unique atmosphere and art on the walls (Picasso). Good music in the background for ambience. We were just driving through Harlan on our way to St. Joseph & Atchison and stopped for supper on Friday night. The food was great. I would highly recommend the tomato basil soup. Fantastic. We both had fish tacos which were very good.Carrot cake for dessert.Reasonable portions (especially the soup and dessert) and fair prices.Highly recommend this restaurant. Excellent service as well.

We had a wonderful dinner experience here. The atmosphere was nice and quiet without a wait. The hostess and waitress provided excellent service as we continued to get our glasses filled with water.
We were traveling back from Santa Fe and stumbled across the Purple Door. What an incredible dinner! Our entrees were to die for. Great atmosphere, outstanding desserts, only regret, I live in Erie, Pa., a bit of a drive for dinner. Everyone in our group frequently refers to this restaurant and the fun time we had.
Best food I have ever had. Every single thing was absolutely delicious.

Food and service was superb. We arrived 15 minutes before closing but they welcomed us and served a fresh and delicious meal. Beautiful decor and great atmosphere. Off I-80 10 miles but absolutely worth it. We will be back. Very reasonable prices.

Tucked away on the square in Harlan Iowa you will find the hidden gem. Go for the drinks, stay for dinner. The menu has a nice variety at very reasonable prices. Delicious shrimp polenta for under $25 is a bargain anywhere. The service was spot on and th soft jazz music just added to a wonderful dining experience.
