Good food for being open so late I’m surprised the reviews had me worried, try it for yourself the fry’s was crispy be like they’re supposed to be gyro was good for being a more fast paced open late place and price wasn’t bad I got 2 gyro 2 fry’s and 6 Tzatziki sides for 31$ portions were

Food was mediocre—But what you see in the picture was literally $20. Before the tip. And even tho the girl acted out out when I asked for salt and a fork she still of course expects a tip. Fries and a Gyro 20$. I ordered extra meat but I’m not sure where the lady put it. Maybe in her pocket? The portion was small. The flavor of the meat was lacking and blan. The fries were dry and old. I gave it 2 Stars instead of one because I liked the hot sauce. Food in downtown Iowa city is getting more and more ridiculous in price. But this is ludicrous. I will definitely not be returning to this place ever. If you want a good gyro then find Hicks gyros, which is a food truck. They are delicious, bigger, and less expensive.

Went late evening...first, couldn't get in b/c bunch of people sitting & blocking stairs to the front door. Wife asked to unlock restroom, staff says "that NOT a restroom" when the sign reads Restroom!The gentleman busy chit chatting with friend vs helping guests. Not very sanitary, in terms of food handling practices either...and selling gyros out of a steam well versus the spit (gyros rotisserie)

No flavor feels like I’m eating Taco Bell or something
Highly recommend trying this place out. The gyros were delicious and the pita bread was light as a cloud, so good! Perfect golden grilled cheese for our little one. The atmosphere is very friendly and clean. Limited seating but they wrap the gyros up perfectly in a way that makes it very easy to walk and eat. Can also or get it to go, door dash, etc. Will absolutely be back soon!

What an honor to be the first to review. My husband and I have lots of positive things to say about our experience at George's. Here is our overall summary: Our gyros were scrumptious-- no frills, just meat, tomatoes, onion, and tzatziki sauce. The meat and tzatziki sauce are mixed together which makes this a top notch sando. It is easy to get the full flavor of all ingredients in each bite thanks to the staff taking the extra step to mix the sauce. I would have liked some lettuce too but assume that they don't carry it because it does not store well. The fries deserve special mention because they are seasoned! Praise the Almighty above! We ordered one side of fries to share and the employee working was thoughtful enough to split them between our two trays. I appreciated that he took initiative to do this and noted his customer-oriented service. Our food was prepared on the spot and was ready quickly. The owner was kind enough to briefly chat with us and seemed incredibly proud of his establishment. George's Gyros has nailed the art of creating grab-and-go, fast casual food. We are adding this to our "I'm too lazy to cook dinner" rotation and recommend you do the same!
