It's been a few years since I ate at 126 and decided it was time for a visit. I carefully checked the menus listed on their website and was excited to try the lamb osso bucco listed on their website at $26. When we sat down and I looked at the menu, I thought that there was a typo when the price listed for the lamb was $62!!! The food was delicious and, thanks to a generous friend who helped me celebrate my birthday, I had the lamb and it was amazing. Please update your on line menus so that people don't get sticker shock when they sit down.

Mathew and the Staff at One Twenty Six were absolutely fabulous. I wish there was a "plus" sign I could add to my 5 star

We went for valentine's day unfortunately we waited for an hour after being seated for service. The owner was very apologetic and comped are dinner. The food was amazing and worth the wait. I will definitely give them another try.

We enjoyed our food and our time at 126!Dietary restrictions: The server told me they have a dedicated gluten-free fryer and are careful when prepping foid for people who need GF food. I very much appreciate this, That said, there is always a risk of cross-contamination since the entire kitchen isn't GF, but I did not get sick after my meal there. ?

My wife and I had a wonderful evening here for NYE! Food and wine pairings were phenomenal and we enjoyed discussing French wine with the owner. They have a wide variety of options for Gluten Free on their menu and all the food we tried was delicious. We will be back!

Just average. Partner’s food was undercooked, servers not very attentive. Was hoping for fine dining, but this place just isn’t. Desk/phone person was helpful and nice, though.

I really wanted to love the food at this higher dining place and unfortunately was disappointed. The restaurant has a cute old looking set-up in the heart of downtown Iowa City and they have some outside seating too. The service was excellent, our waiter was professional, answered all our questions about the menu, gave us time to decide, and checked to see if we needed anything several times. However, the reason for my lower rating was the food. We ordered the Vegan Thai Grilled Veg and the Lamb Osso Bucco and honestly they were nothing extraordinary like I was expecting, especially for the high price. The veggies on the vegan dish tasted fresh, but the rice was super oily and tasted more burned instead of fried, and although the coconut cream tastes okay the contrast to the other flavors didn’t seem to compliment the dish in my opinion. I liked how tender the meat was and the taste of the grilled asparagus on the Lamb Osso Bucco dish. But the polenta didn’t taste like it was freshly made, it tasted like a boxed mix and the amount of gravy/sauce on the dish was too much. We were considering ordering dessert but due to the disappointment from the entrees we changed our minds.8/31/2023: I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my original review, and now I feel compelled to make a few comments regarding your response.Firstly, my review didn’t say you didn’t make the food from scratch. I specified that the polenta on the Osso Bucco dish didn’t taste fresh and compared the taste to that from a box while also complimenting the tenderness of the meat and grilled asparagus. Secondly, just because you believe the Osso Bucco to be amazing and a French Italian guest and his wife were blown away by it, that doesn’t invalidate my personal opinion on the taste which was also shared by my friend. Regarding the fried rice, I have never in my life tasted fried rice that seemed burnt and so oily. Also, since it was our first time trying it at your place, we didn’t know we could request a less crispier option. Lastly, your comment about our server was uncalled for because regardless of what the server told you, my review was true to my opinion. I would like to highlight what you clearly overlooked in my review: I gave your place 5 stars for the service, 5 stars for the atmosphere, and 2 stars for the food, and my review specified in writing that the service was excellent and I complimented the professionalism of the server. I will also have you know that I am from a culture that despises wasting food and money, so yes we ate the food and took the leftovers. Who hasn’t eaten a meal they don’t like at least once in their life, especially when they paid good money for it?! We didn’t complain because we came in after a long day hungry and eager to try something new. Also, the food took time to be prepared and we didn’t want to complain and wait some more. But that doesn’t change my opinion on the food and us staying for a while after just means we were enjoying our conversation in the quiet atmosphere.

We ate here not once, but twice, today! Happened upon this restaurant for a light lunch -I had an artichoke salad, hubby enjoyed the aged beef burger complete with house made brioche bun. Lunch was so delicious, and the evening menu and wine list so intriguing, we returned for dinner! Delicious! First, it’s all about service-impecable and over-the-top. Very interested and involved owner who meets and greets every table. The wines by the glass are interesting and by the bottle amazing. Some very difficult to find older vintages at reasonable prices. Talk to them-the staff is interested in helping you find the right bottle. For dinner we each had the steak frites-he had aged hangar steak and I had cauliflower. Both were delicious-well-seasoned and properly cooked. Love the frites-nicely salted and prepared in the French method. Do save room for dessert -they don’t serve decaf coffee but the flourless chocolate torte will knock your socks off! Creamy texture with rich, deep dark chocolate on just the right amount of raspberry coulee. WOW! In the off season, reservations are not necessary, and outdoor dining is a plus…during the school year, secure a table a few weeks in advance. Hands down, the best dining in Iowa City!

This was probably the worst meal I've had in recent history. My wife said the exact same thing and added she was so disappointed. I had the steak and fries. Steak was good but WAY OVERPRICED at $39. The fries were so greasy and soggy they were inedible. My guess is that the cooking oil wasn't hot enough. I cannot recommend this place nor will I return.
