Quaint little restaurant with great service and fantastic food. Should have taken a picture of my beautiful Greek salad with blackened chicken. Yum!

This place is giving quaint, cozy library and the music mix was definitely a chill indie vibe. This building has been many different bars/eateries in the past and I’m glad to see a restaurant like The Black Angel on this corner now.The menu is a good size, on the smaller side which typically means (to me) better quality food. Many sandwich and po boy variations. I enjoyed the Des Moines po boy which had Italian sausage patties and a huge portion of thick cut ham. It was phenomenal and loved having a Caesar salad as a side option. Our table also split the chips and queso. Queso was more Tex Mex vs the queso blanco flavor you’d expect at a Mexican restaurant. We really enjoyed it though. Chips were pretty good. I prefer thinner crispier chips where these were thicker.Ended it all with the bread pudding dessert which I inhaled. So delicious. Only thing I wished was that it was served warmer and with vanilla ice cream instead of whipped cream. Will definitely be returning to try other sandwiches and maybe their breakfast as well! Also worth nothing the pricing is very fair. I feel like eating out has gotten so expensive but we got two entrees and a dessert for $42. Haven’t spent that little on dinner in Iowa City in a long time.

Entering Black Angel you are greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere, and mouth watering aromas. The menu selection is filled with something for everyone and the dishes stir the taste buds and senses. The waiter was helpful and engaging, he gave us menu recommendations and explaining drink parings and options. We will be back.

Phenomenal spot for a great cocktail and bite to eat. Stumbled upon this gem by happenstance and I am sure glad I did.

Everything about my experience at this restaurant was fantastic. I had the brisket poboy and it was delicious. Their drink menu is very unique and the mule I had was the best I've had. Super cool place and I'm going back tonight with friends.

Liked the cool minimalist vibe with panels evocative of old coffin wood and stained glass window reminiscent of a forgotten chapel. My favorite chicken tacos back from the dead! Decent hefeweizen on tap. Service so good it's scary... ⚰️????

Our group of 8 came in right at open. The coffee, food and service were excellent! The ambiance is superb, very laid back and chill. Our breakfast was everything we hoped it would be. We can't wait to come back!

I came here for brunch with several friends and truly enjoyed it. Our server (Grace) was extremely warm, accommodating, and knowledgeable about the menu -- my friends had picky questions. I enjoyed my dish (Monster Mash), although my friend's Cinnamon Pancakes were probably the star of the show. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very calm and inviting. I will be back!

Every time I have been, the food and staff have been fantastic. I don't eat meat and was very excited about their soyrizo on the breakfast tacos. The drinks were tasty as well and the bartender was so nice. The only thing I'd say was less than enjoyable was the bar chairs. I think a foot bar would be a great addition to make them more comfortable.Vegetarian options: Dishes without meat and sub for soyrizo in many dishesWheelchair accessibility: On the ground floor and the tables are far enough apart that a wheelchair could fit. They have a few high top tables but I believe most a wheelchair could be brought up to.
