Jenn’s baked goods are amazing! This is the second time we’ve ordered cupcakes for a birthday party and they are so delicious, soft, fluffy, and light! I strongly recommend White Tree Bakery for any memorable moment you are celebrating! Thanks for your wonderful goods Jenn!

Stopped in on a random Thursday and we had a bacon cheddar scone and coffee cake. My wife and I fought over both, and she won….. such a great place in MV - don’t miss out!

Happened to be working in Mt Vernon and came across this little bakery. Chose the bacon and chive sconces among a nice selection. They were absolutely wonderful!!! Will be sure to stop back the next time I am in Mt Vernon.

White Tree Bakery did our wedding cakes on 2.3.23! They were absolutely beautiful and just what we wanted! The frosting was creamy and delicious. The almond cake was my favorite! The cakes photographed beautifully and will be a great memory. They responded in a timely manner, pricing was great and they delivered/assembled the cakes! 10/10 would definitely recommend. Thank you for being a part of our big day!

We needed a coffee and many other places are closed on Monday...Big Creek made me a latte with soy milk and we paired it with a very tasty lemon bar!

Wonderful market/food stop! Everything is organic and fair trade, and the prices are reasonable! Karen and Carine are so helpful and nice too!

I wanted to like this place. I was excited to find a health-minded market & cafe. I had a quiche and salad combination. The servings were meager; the food unexceptional and it was way too expensive. A disappointment.

Yes, yes, yes...this is a great store for those who are interested in healthy, organic food. In terms of food, I think it offers some of the best in the area. There is absolutely no contesting that. They even have a decent beer selection, though it is tiny and the best stuff tends to be in the 'sell now' nook because no one who shops here knows what good beer tastes like. The bulk section for rice and things is probably their best deal, so don't buy the bags of rice and things they have in the center aisle. Also, don't buy anything other than food here unless you are seriously concerned about your acid mantle (look it up) or you're accustomed to paying somewhere between $7-9 for toothpaste. I love my teeth and brush them every day, but having a couple of high-priced options really bothered me. I realize it's a specialty store, but I'm well-versed enough in 'the movement' to know that there are options. Essentially, that's the main fault with this particular area (non-food) at Big Creek...the lack of options. They have a coffee and tea section, but it's over-priced. The coffee also isn't very good. I normally buy free-trade coffee from a local place in Madison that spoils the crap out of people like me with awesome beans (Just Coffee is the name), so my review here is tainted by that. Still, if I pay $11-13 per pound for some coffee it better be good. Nothing I've bought here was good though. In fact it was stale, as if it had been sitting there for a couple of years waiting for schmucks like me to buy it. Which brings me to the produce. Some of it was ok, but other areas were TERRIBLE. Now, I'm a farmer and a teacher, but the former has informed me a great deal about what 'fresh' is. I bought some garlic that upon inspection seemed ok, but upon peeling turned out to be at LEAST one year old. In fact, I know it was last year's garlic. I've purchased garlic before that had an interior bulb beginning to sprout a little. That's fine. THIS garlic however...EV-ER-Y single clove was sprouting, was spongy, and long ago lost its garlic-ness. This was a travesty for me because I love garlic and love cooking with garlic. I only mention it here because this experience is representative of everything in this store. There is a serious problem with quality control, and I'm sure it has to do with the fact that they're trying to maintain a profit in an area that doesn't shop here often. I sympathize, but it's not an excuse to just let it go. The garlic is just the tip of the iceberg, but luckily other areas of the store are more time-friendly. In any case, the prices are a bit steep, but in a tiny town with little-to-no market for these items...you have to give Big Creek a HUGE round of applause for even daring to open up shop here in the first place. Thank you for that. However, don't abuse your position here. People like me will get pissed off at the fact that you've sold them a dusty version of the original and won't come back. Aside from everything I've said here...the people working here are very nice. The location is sweet too, but they need to maintain a higher level of service.

This place is a godsend. Years later, and currently living in a thriving metropolis far away, I still dream of Big Creek Market. My #1. Mt Vernon hangout. Don't leave Mt Vernon or Cornell College without spending lots and lots of time here. 1). a lovely little cafe tucked in the back with extraordinarily yummy and decently priced food and drink (cheaper and tastier than Fuel/Nest). 2). Great deals on organic, locally grown, hypoallergenic, and all-natural goods. Toiletries, tampons, cookies, homeopathic remedies, chocolates, vitamin supplements, neti pots, they've got it all! 3). Ridiculously nice folks. I came here for the first time as a visiting prospective student and my experience here totally influenced my decision. My mother, little brother and I were freezing our Californian asses off during the Iowan spring and came in here to warm up. We got some of the most delicious yet simple sandwiches, lemonade and iced tea we'd ever had. Ever. We moaned appreciatively and the woman who owns the place responded by giving us some chicken dumpling soup, on the house! Best g-d damn chicken soup I ever had. Lincoln Cafe, Smincoln Cafe; I don't care what anybody else says. This is the best dining experience in Mt. Vernon when you factor in the coziness, value for money, consistently filling and satisfying food, and the people.

Big Creek Market got me through College. Literally. I worked here for two years and the income supplement made a huge difference in my life. But seriously, I would not have made it in small town Iowa as a health-conscious vegetarian without the support of Big Creek Market. Big Creek covered all the bases. Coffee bar, Sandwich deli, fresh local breads and pies, home-made gourmet fudge and shortbreads, organic bulk fairtrade coffee, ice cream during the summer, specialty foods like Quinoa, and bulk items like granolas, gluten free flours...truly a haven for the health nut. The staff are friendly, and will greet you by name by the time you've made your second or third visit.
