Very helpful staff! The food was hot, and the fish special was good. We arrived within the hour of closing, and they said we would feed you. Don't worry, take your time. That home atmosphere.

Great food and even though the place is often busy service is impeccable.
I didn't get two of the items that I ordered. When I asked for my food to be heated 15 minutes later when the items were finally ready, the waitress got snippy and loudly complained that she was the only one there; there were only three other tables in use. I remained calm, quiet, polite, yet consistent that I wanted the items that I ordered and I said please. By then, my friend was not comfortable enough to ask for the salad she added on to her meal; and there was even a upcharge on the ticket for the salad. My friend wondered why the waitress was getting so loud when I was being quiet and appropriate to the waitress. When I read my order on the ticket, the wrong item was entered; this was the server's mistake not the cooks and the server never apologized, instead she yelled from the cash register to the table as she stopped over and then slammed a receipt on the table and said she paid for the meal out of her very own pocket, in order to try to ascend some guilt trip or embarrassment for asking for my food, and the cold food to be heated e.g. french toast without toppings, wrong type eggs, and cold soggy oily hash browns. We had to then use cash for our meals since the server left and rang out our order. Not only did we end up paying more in the long run than even for the items we received but the food was horrible the server raised her voice at us, and it was a horrible untasteful experience. The other guests in the restaurant seemed bothered by it and because of the waitresses loudness they thought I was quietly saying something bad to the waitress when I was asking for my food that I ordered and paid for. Worst dining experience. Not a family atmosphere, waitresses should not yell at customers or slam things on the table or say things that would embarrass a customer like announcing from across the room that she was paying for the meal even though I should have no problem asking for exactly what I ordered and what I paid for, then appropriate restaurant policy should be used. I would like the manager to contact me after looking at the ticket to see the servers honest mistakes and the surveillance video to see her inappropriate reaction. I'll be filing a report with the better Business bureau for the incorrect billing and treatment

Got there about 9 a.m. for a hearty breakfast before a chilly soccer match at noon and getting back home before sunset. Delightful waitress, fast service & wonderful food. A cute baby across the room & fall colors for travelers & locals. French toast, eggs, bacon, hot coffee. Others had biscuits & gravy, eggs & bacon.
Ordered breakfast skillets. Mine was great but my boyfriend's steak on his skillet was nasty. Bad taste and he was throwing up the entire rest of the day. Don't order the steak.

Busy on a Sunday afternoon! Generous helpings; friendly waitresses; good cook with good ingredients-- he did my basted eggs just right! Clearly a favorite with the locals, but we out-of-towners (with Oelwein roots, in town for a funeral) will be back next time we're in town.
