So I am in Sioux City for a business trip and I really wanted to experience the local fare & flavor of Sioux City. Well there is no better place to go to for that hospitality and local business owned operation than Kate's! I am planning to go back for a second trip this week and I want to ask for Kate's signature food to be able to give a review on some of their favorites. But just on first approach, it is in the most wonderful corridor in Sioux City it has that 1950s hometown feel to it. Inside the restaurant it is a cozy environment that is so welcoming to its patrons. It is clean, well decorated and inviting. Please note this is a cash or check only operation so no credit cards!

This little unique cafe is so cute. If you are wanting a hamburger, do not go here. They are know for their coffee and sandwiches.

I am new to the area and very happy to find a local eatery. The place is a beautiful reminder of days past. The food and service are great and the pricing is very reasonable. I loved it.

Cute little small town eclectic cafe with attached antique shops. Not an overwhelming menu. Stopped for breakfast on our way to South Dakota. Very nice. Courteous and prompt service and cheap! Coffee was good and biscuits and gravy were buttermilk. Eggs were yummy. Microwave was used a lot.

Kate's is a nice 'joint' with the normal deli offerings. Unique decor and bar to belly up to. The waitstaff was very friendly and helpful, attentive without hovering. I had the chili dog, kinda hard to screw that up! The bun is store-bought and the hotdog was very average but the Chili was flavorful and fantastic. Made me wish I had just purchased a cup or bowl of it. The others in my group had similar reviews of their sandwiches, for example the BLT on wheat with Sun Chips. Good but nothing special. Chips served with others are a bag of Lays. I enjoyed a mocha with raspberry, it was very good. They have the entire array of coffee drinks and flavors to add. I would think they do a bang up coffee business with the quality and reasonable price. Overall this is a nice place, good service with average food. Decent value. Nothing to keep us away but in the same respect nothing special or unique about the food to draw us back for another visit.

Kate's is a cute main street, small town cafe, the kind of place where everyone seems to know each other. On a daily basis they dish up salads, soup and sandwiches along with malts and desserts, plus breakfast. But they're also avaialble for bridal events, wedding rehearsal dinners and tea parties. From the accolades on display, they do a prettey decent job of that. There's a small gift shop in a side room, but it's a half-hearted attempt, although I did buy a couple of cards there. On my most recent visit I ordered a tavern, or loosemeat as it's known to some. I also got a cup of ham and bean soup. The soups are always good and a highlight of the menu. Our Irish creme cake fell a little short and was too dry. Give Kate's a try for a slice of small town America.
