Any 5 star review is definitely fake. We ate there Friday 9/16/2022. We had the same experience as all of the 1 star reviews. The girl at the hotel we stayed at had a list of restaurants to give to guests and Joe's crab shack was crossed off. She said " I think they are open again, they were closed for a while". She didn't know why though. we wanted seafood so we decided to try Joe's out. Total sh_t show start to finish. This location definitely needs a new owner. One bad apple applies here for me. First Joe's and last Joe's. You've been warned.

Came here with my daughter for lunch today and our waiter Taylor was awesome! He was so friendly and very quick! Also recommend the queen crab legs which were delicious! The view on the outdoor patio is amazing. Thanks Taylor!

Service was terrible. Waited 20 minutes and then had to go to the front to ask where our waitress/waiter was. Food was average at best. Never was asked about refills. Waited 15 minutes for waiter to come back to get credit card. Best part of experience was ease of obtaining reservation.

The restaurant was not all that busy, three to four tables. Our server took 1 hour to take our order. The individuals behind us left without being seen by the waiter. I felt that the food was okay, not something that I'd make a special trip to get again. I expected it to be a bit pricey, but for the quality of food? It seemed very over priced for food that didn't even taste all that great. My daughter requested some ranch, it didn't come with the meal. She asked for it again. To this day, no one has seen the ranch. I did like the kids play area, but again, not enough for me to justify a $100 meal. Red lobster gives me as much seafood for less price with better service.

My wife wanted to treat me for Father’s Day. We were not acknowledged at the door. I asked a beleaguered server if we were supposed to seat ourselves. She said she was working as fast as she could, and told us about her bad day and “2 breakdowns”. I actually helped her clean a table for us. She must have left shortly thereafter because we sat a while, almost left. A server acknowledged us and said she’d help us. She didn’t bring our appetizer and brought my wife the wrong meal. My wife was disappointed because she ordered a meal with shrimp and the meal she was brought had no shrimp in sight (it was even called “Rocket shrimp”, go figure). Father’s Day sucks at Joes.

Joe's crab shack has always been a favorite of mine. I took my granddaughter for a special lunch and once again they didn't disappoint. She had shrimp. Which she scared down. I had the clam chowder, delicious, and the apoetizer combo. The waiter nicely let me substitute mozzarella stick for the spicy balls of fire. The calamari was delicious. Not as big a fan of the seafood dip. It was heavy on. The cream cheese, but not bad. Our waiter was wonderful. Very attentive and helpful despite bring busy. I love the venue and the view of the lake really adds to it. As a plus they have a play area outside fir kids. I read a couple other reviews complaint about the price. Its seafood and its expensive right now. I really wanted a steamer pot but wasn't hungry enough to attack one for lunch. I'll be back when I'm in Des Moines

My family’s first time there this afternoon. The service was outstanding! Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu items, personable and was on top of everything! The food was great and the atmosphere was very inviting, but the service was priceless! We travel to the area often for my kids sporting events and we’ll definitely be back!

Hubby and I were out and about. We were seated quickly to a booth. Anna (Hanna?) Was our server. She was lovely. Made polite conversation and hustled her buns. Our food was hot and and came out fast. Thank you!

We didn't receive our appetizer until after I had already received my main course. My husbands meal wasn't even brought to our table until I was almost done eating. Our waitress had a mental breakdown and walked out because the kitchen staff had no idea what they were doing.
Place was empty, which was nice. However the floors were filthy and sticky. You could see on the floor where it was clean and where it wasn't. Absolutely disgusting. The server was fair and the food was ok. I'll not be going back. I'd rather go to places that care about cleanliness. I wish I had taken a picture of the floor to post here. There was a hump in the middle of the walkways of grime that had been built up over time.

We recently visited for our wedding anniversary. My husband (who doesn't like seafood) had never been and I had not been for a few years. Our waitress was great, helpful and very friendly. Our food was AMAZING! I had the cedar salmon with clams and my husband ordered a streak. We were both extremely impressed with our meals and will definitely be back again!

By far the worst experience we have had. We used to love eating here. Was always quality food. Tonight my husband got the east coast platter and the stuffed crab was still frozen. I got snow crab that literally had zero meat inside. Fried fish tasted ok but was oil soaked. It hasn't been that long since we have been here and it seems like the prices have at least doubled. Very disappointed.

Lets start by saying that I drove 2 hours to go there. We ordered 3 steam pots and they came without ANY seasoning at all when we ordered with garlic season. Not one of them but ALL of them. As part of the order we added some lobster tails that someone forgot, either the waiter or in the kitchen so they arrived 15 minutes after the food was in the table. We requested to talk to the Manager about it and he came to the table and what he said was totally non-sense. Because we complain, the waiter decided to not to come back to our table, so no more service. We asked for a split check, and guess what, they didn't do it either. The experience was AWFUL. And after all that I got to drive 2 more hours back home. Totally waste of a Saturday.
