I made the mistake of ignoring all of the recent poor reviews, and decided to give this place a try anyway. Well, lesson learned. I will not be making that mistake ever again. Awful.

Not a good experience. Steamed clams were the worst I have ever had. Horrible sauce and over cooked. The pot roast appetizer was all chips with a little cheese and 3 pieces of meat the size of a marble. Only thing good was my 805 beer. Waitress was not friendly at all. Funny, I have had nothing but great reviews for the Tavern in East Boise. Night and day difference.

Usually, Tavern serves great food. Today unfortunately they didn’t. My girlfriend and I have been here before and really love the burgers they serve as well as the ceasar salad. My girlfriend and I both ordered two burgers and a salad to split as usual. The salad wasn’t too bad, that was when we were able to eat it, we were sat with no utensils and had to wait until our entrees were served to eat it. My girlfriend enjoyed her Moscato wine as well, even though it was oddly served in a champagne glass. The burgers themselves looked like they came from a diner in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma. We both asked for medium well, mine being a Bbq Bacon Cheeseburger and hers the Tavern with bacon. One was cooked extra well done, tasted like carbon, the other was cooked charred on the outside but medium on the inside. Mine was missing the bacon, the one thing that was in the name of my entree. Another thing that was missing was, well flavor, it wasn’t seasoned, fries under cooked as well. And what happened with the buns, I felt like I was eating a loaf of bread with a side of meat. I rather of had a bacon quarter pounder from mcdonald’s.Besides waiting for someone to come to the front and sit us, and not having utensils, the server was friendly, understanding and polite, the tip I gave was a reflection of her kindness to this very poor experience.$55, $64 with the tip, and an upset stomach later, I’m writing this review, We arrived at 9 and left at 9:40, both with not even closed to finish plates because how terrible it was.

The Good. The bartender and the top shelf cocktails were awesome. The waitress was pleasant. The Not So Good. Ordered the 1lb clams. There might have been 1 lb there if you counted the tomatoes and wine, otherwise I'd guess 1/2 lb at best. Had to ask for silverware. Dinner arrived promptly, in fact hadn't even finished the clams. Waitress couldn't remember who ordered what. Only 2 of us. But that's normal these days. I ordered the Boursin chicken, wife ordered the Cajun chicken club. (Wasn't going cheap, as the night before we had a primerib dinner at home and just wanted something lighter tonight.) Looked really good, but I have to say we both agreed that our meals were very, very bland tasting. We needed a knife to cut our chicken breasts, as the butter knife wasn't cutting it. No pun intended. Waitress never came around after serving, so my wife had to go to the check-in counter to ask for a knife. She brought 1! We were there after the typical dinner rush hour so they weren't slammed. This was my wife's 78th birthday that night, so I was hoping that it would be a very nice dinner outing. I subtly mentioned to bartender and waitress that it was her birthday. No reply. Guess I'm old school as usually a bar and better restaurant kindly offers a b-day drink, the restaurant would offer a free desert maybe. My total bill was a little over $100, not including tips. Actually, as I'm writing this, I mentioned to the wife i was writing about the dinner, and her comment was "it sucked".
