Ok, I previously had a 5 star review up. I love Portillo’s. I love everything that it used to be. I love Richard J. Portillo’s legacy. I’ve been coming here for almost 3 decades now. And I know that Richard Portillo has since sold Portillo’s, so it’s fair to expect some slight changes, and possibly a slight quality decrease. But here’s the thing. The other locations, they don’t have any noticeable quality decrease. Maybe slightly in service quality, but certainly not in their foods. This Portillo’s, is a different store. This was my go to location and the one closest to me. There were more than a few months in the last 3 decades that I’ve come here once a day, every day for the entire month. But this location is starting to lose my faith. The food quality has on many occasions not been up to the standard set by the Portillo’s name. And MOST IMPORTANTLY, the staff here need more training. EVERY SINGLE TIME at the location, when I tell them I want sport peppers in my big beef, they put hot peppers. They haven’t been trained to tell the difference. EVERY SINGLE TIME. I even clarify, knowing this, and I say “I’d like sport peppers. So that means not the hot peppers, the sport peppers.” And 50% of those times I still get hot peppers instead of sport peppers. Seriously guys, get it together. You’re standing on Richard J. Portillo’s legacy, a legendary of Chicago, that means something. Act like it does. After 12 sport pepper - hot pepper errors that I’ve personally experienced since September of 23, if there is a 13th you’ve lost me for good.

I ordered a jumbo hot dog no peppers and a jumbo chili dog. The jumbo hot dog bun was filled with sport peppers and the chili dog only had chili sauce, no meat beans or onions, only cheese. What a rip offSupposedly I am getting a refund after my phone complaint but our dinner was ruined!!!!!
I would have gave them a 0, but I unfortunately cant. I even called in advance and spoke with one of your employ, the lady was super sweet and understand, and clearly communicated to me that I had to walk up to the counter and tell them my name and my order was supposed to be pretty much ready once I get there. Walked up and spoke with slightly older dude, told him clearly that I called 5-10mins ago for a remake and that he will have the order ready. Nearly 20 mins go by and I still don’t have my order and I’m just standing there with just my old receipt. I ended up walking out and grabbing my wallet and paying for another order. Just observing for the time I was standing there, looked like a bunch of headless chicken running around at times.
