Certainly wasn't sure about this Mexican place in Belvidere. De Juan looked like it was pretty sketchy even from the outside. It's at the end of a pretty crummy strip mall and that's saying nothing about the kinds of people. How bad would it be inside? Turns out not that bad to be honest: cheap looking but okay though. After thinking about it we went inside and got seats at the bar. It had a few others in there and it looked pretty okay. The menu is basic Mexican American stuff. It's about $7 for cocktails. Luna Azul is a blue margarita. This was an innocent looking but strong one though. As for the food, not bad. There's the basic types of stuff. It's about $11 for a burrito. The Vegetarian Burrito is among these. Very stuffed with onions, peppers, and whatever. Comes with a cheese sauce on it. The burrito without it is maybe even better it seems. Honestly it's a place that needs to be given a chance and not passed up just because of the sketchy area. It's for sure not authentic, but it's still mostly okay though. There's plenty of choices for meat eaters as well as vegetarians.

Very chewy steak in the steak tacos, also, where is the rice and beans, they hardly even half filled the containers? Very small portions for VERY large prices. Watch out..

The food here is amazing. And the servers are very good at keeping even the most difficult of orders straight. I did take off a point for the ambiance, not because of how it looks, just that it's so tiny that sometimes it can be hard to get a table if you have a big group. 10/10 get the margaritas. They are soooo good!

Went in as a quick anniversary dinner with my husband and got the chicken chimichanga. The chicken was a little pink and I didn’t notice until I was halfway done eating because I was talking and enjoying my husbands company. Thats when he pointed it out to me and told me to stop eating it. (For extra detail, im 8 months pregnant) We asked a waitress what she thought and she said she was unsure and after asking if I wanted to change it to beef, before walked away.I decided to leave it unfinished and we left shortly after. Now I’m sick to my stomach and about to have to call my doctor for advice as this could potentially hurt our baby. I just wish there was a little more professionalism with handling the situation. The tone of the waitress seemed sincere but we wish there was some action taken in asking the chef if it was normal.Also, salsa wasn’t even salsa. It was red and green enchilada sauce. Not sure if thats common but just in case if anyone was wanting actual chips and salsa
