We go to Johnsons every year for a holiday get together. Bishop hill is in the middle of our families, so we meet there every year. The waot staff are all wonderful and very accommodating. The food was very good.

What a lovely place to eat and shop! We stopped in for lunch and had the Swedish meatballs with lingonberry jam over noodles along with some plain noodles with fruit on the side for the kids. They also split a brownie sundae to end the meal and everything was delicious! We also found a few things in the gift shop and they have things that are very inexpensive as well!

All four of us loved our lunch. For me the half sandwich and dill soup was great. I also had the bread pudding which was delicious.

Heard good things about this Norwegian religious conclave now a historic destination run by IL DNR. Drove 2 hours from Galena to visit. Started at this bright yellow quaint eatery. Our coffee was freshly made for us. The two servers were very attentive and pleasant. Homemade broccoli soup was tasty and not over salted. The two signature entrees came with a fresh side salad. Swedish meatballs flavored with cardamom and nutmeg on butter noodles were tasty too. The stuffed green cabbage was also "right sized" for lunch. Dessert was rhubarb and cherry pie both with an excellent crust. The rhubarb was not overly tart. The check was what you'd expect to pay for a really good homemade meal of this size. I'd go back in a heartbeat just for this eatery. Make a day of Bishop Hill walking and exploring afterwards

This was my first time visiting Bishop Hill. Before going to a couple of shops, we had lunch at PL Johnson. What a treat! Three of us ordered three different dishes & shared. We got Swedish meatballs, stuffed cabbage, & ham with Swiss cheese casserole. Everything was delicious!!!We shared two desserts & they were delicious as well.Everything was homemade with high quality, fresh ingredients. No freezer to fryer food here! The waitress was outstanding!I wish I had gotten her name, so I could mention her in this review. The service was excellent!Thank you!!!

Always love going to Bishop Hill and eating at P.L. Johnson’s. They have great food and desserts. Service is always the best and the owners really do look to make everyone’s meal and dining the best that they possibly can!

This is a very quaint restaurant that embodies the Swedish heritage of the village. The menu and the hours are somewhat limited but the food on offer is delightful. I got the Swedish meatballs and a slice of peach berry pie. Everything was very tasty. The service was great, too.
