The Hungry Road

(Last visited 8/29/2022.) It's a a dreary Monday and after flying in from Connecticut while enduring flight delay after flight delay, I'm tired, but I'm hungry. The closest place to the hotel is INSIDE the hotel and that's Sip & Savor. Hotel food gets a bad rep, but I was ASSURED that the food here was good. So, I was given some recommendations and walked downstairs to experience what this place has to offer...Atmosphere/Appearance: It's a hotel bar. Lol. There's a huge bar rail that wraps around the actual bar so you can sit on 3 different sides. Plenty of seating. Directly behind the seats are tables where you can relax with a group of friends or your family. It was fairly quiet in there, but I can see it getting pretty loud if there's a big work group in here or something.Service: Kelly took excellent care of me. She was the only one working so she had her hands full, but she managed to check on everyone, take care of everyone and even have conversations with several folks. She was super friendly and most importantly, honest about the things on the menu when I asked her.Food: I started off with the Grilled Shrimp Tacos. They come in an order of 3 with a grilled lime and verde salsa on the side. These were honestly fantastic. The balance of cilantro-lime crema with crunchy cabbage and the subtle shrimp flavor worked together so well. For my entrée I opted for what was recommended to me, the BBQ Bacon Jack Burger. It's described as having Monterey jack cheese, caramelized onions, bacon and BBQ sauce. Lettuce, tomato and a pickle spear are served on the side. This burger was actually very, very delicious, but I was asked how I wanted it cooked. I said medium. The burger came out well-done. So that told me one of 2 things. Either someone is goofing off in the kitchen back there or someone is inexperienced. When I told Kelly about the blunder I heard someone else say, "that's the 3rd time that's happened tonight". So... that should be fixed. Quickly. Kelly offered to have it recooked, but I hate wasting food and I wanted to be on my way. So I enjoyed my overcooked dry burger as best that I could and moved on.Value: My tacos were $12.50 and my burger was $14.00. Not bad pricing at all for hotel food. Usually it can be hiked up a bit, just like mall food or airport food, but not here, great value. In conclusion, I would like to give this place a 3.6, but because I'm positive and generous, it rounds up to 4. If I do return to this place and my burger is overcooked, then I'll send it back because I do want to get what I want if I'm a paying customer. If you made it this far in the review, I appreciate you reading. Very loud bar and grill can’t have a conversation

Great hotel bar and restaurant. Daniel is the best server/bartender. I came here for work and I will be returning for leisure!

Sip & Savor is the bar inside of the Crowne Plaza. I have been here a lot of times over the years and it seems they are trying to do a new menu and rebrand with a new name. The staff is friendly and works hard but they need some help. Bartender/Server has to spend time running Room Service orders to the rooms. The drinks are meh, The cocktail menu lists ingredients they do not have. I ordered a second Margarita and had it made with a mix and then dumped into the first glass I had already used. The pasta I had was bland and mushy with not much flavor. The steak dinner had a laughing few pieces of vegetables. Overall its a hotel bar / restaurant so expect prices to be inflated, however its a pretty hard crash. I would say it needs more work and for sure they need more staff.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel and decided to stop in the bar for a drinks, so we thought. As we walked in, both bartenders acknowledged us, "hey guys, welcome, Happy New Year." That was all. They were having a very deep conversation with another patron about bellinis. in the entire establishment it was the bellini guy at the bar, myself, my husband and a family of 4 sitting at a table in the corner. We were there maybe 5 minutes, and then decided to leave. As we were entering the elevator, one of the bartenders, the female asked, "Did yall need something?'' My husband and I just looked at each other and thought to our selves, ummm, we wanted a drink, but......Overall, drink in your room or not at the bar.

$8 for a Lagunitas IPA at a hotel bar? No thanks. Bartender was attentive and pot stickers were decent.

Wow, great food and very reasonable!!! Beautiful hotel and appreciate a gorgeous interior design. Especially the tribute to Chicago architecture. Staff was great and good was delicious. My new favorite spot in town!!!

Better then expected. New property so still trying to get right. The drinks were reasonable, the staff was wonderful, the decor is new and hip and it's south of the traffic. All you IHG guys add it to your favs for the Jolliet area!!

The loaded tots didn't disappoint although they did forget the sour cream, and the chicken sliders with Asian slaw were pretty good! The chicken crispy and flavorful, but the slaw really kicks it up a notch. The tots - can't go wrong with cheese and BACON...ever!!! (Once again, sour cream would have added the touch, but seems they were out...hm). Anyway, the menu has a nice variety, and I think if you're in the area you should really give it a try.
