Unfortunately I was pretty disappointed with Ruby's when I got lunch from their popup in my office building downtown. The menu looked great and I was excited to try the veggie plate (green beans, mac n cheese, rice and beans, cornbread muffin). They told me they were out of rice and beans and I later realized I didn't get a muffin either, so the "veggie plate" ended up just being a double serving of mac n cheese and some green beans. The price already seemed high, but without two of the items it was a little ridiculous. The mac n cheese and green beans tasted exactly like they came from a box/can with a little seasoning added - very underwhelming. I will say that the piece of yellow cake with chocolate frosting that I got for dessert was absolutely delicious, but it didn't look like it was made in house. Hopefully they can figure out their issues and either take the prices wayyy down or find a way to significantly improve the quality of their food. The only reason I might return is to get another piece of that cake!!

I knew the one in CC Hills would be closing. I guess it changed hands. When I first started going there in 2021the food was good. But near the beginning of last year the food was not the same. So I'm not a bit surprised that that location went under.

It was delicious!!! Was at the food court at the mall and decided to try it out ..and to my surprise it was really good !! And I’m very picky when it comes to soul food ..I had the fried chicken wing which was seasoned very good and had the Mac , greens and sweet potato’s which was good

Ruby's Soul Food kitchen is located in the food court of the River Oaks Mall. They are not always open. But one Sunday I caught a blessing, and was able to dine. Decided to eat in, kind of dismal due to River Oaks is no longer in bustling with happy shoppers since the pandemic. Ok. Back to the food , typical soul food selections, but if you craving the emotional comfort of back in the day of grandma and auntie cooking, this will take you down memory lane. My dinner was excellent. Loved the dressing, sweet potatoes, greens, corn bread, macaroni could have been cheesier to taste . All in all, I give them 5*****Parking: Just pick a spot, anywhere!Dietary restrictions: Ok. This is Soul Food, there are no restrictions!

If you don’t put out fresh good quality no other day, AT LEAST let it be on soul food Sunday!!! All the meats were dried out. Not sure when they cooked it, but it wasn’t on that Sunday. But what really took me over the edge was the Boxed Macaroni they served. We all grew up on it so I was no stranger to it. They tried to doctor it up by putting a ton of black pepper throughout, shredded cheese over the top and melting it. But it screamed boxed Mac & cheese! It was loose and not cohesive. They offer a muffin with all the meals but it was dried out like a hard hockey puck! The dressing was edible and ok. The sweet potatoes had a very pungent taste as if they used too much ginger or all spice. Just disappointed all around. And the customer service sucks as well. They have kids working the front end. But they don’t listen at all! The operations are just not smooth flowing. I feel like they have some potential but it’s way too soon to be cutting corners!

The food takes just like someone's mom cooked it! It's piping hot when they deliver it. We've had the fried chicken, fish, Mac n cheese, greens, and yams. So yummy!

Collard greens:The collard greens initially look pretty dry, but there is some juice in the bottom of the cup The first bite fills your mouth with salt & so does every single one afterwards. These are honestly the worst greens I've ever had. 1/5Fish & wings combo:Mac and cheese looks great. You can definitely tell there's some Cajun seasoning to it. The yams look all right, definitely nothing special here. It comes with a cornbread muffin of which the cornbread is pretty dry. The chicken seems undercooked and the fish overcooked. Taste wise the mac and cheese is salty as the greens, the yams could be better, the chicken is pretty bland for a place that calls itself soulful, and the fish is super salty as well. 2/5Chopped steak burger:I love me a good chopped steak burger, but when the burger seems to be charbroiled when there's no apparent broiler or grill marks...it is a cause for concern. They clearly burned the burger as well. The tomatoes and lettuce doesn't seem fresh. There's no other ingredients on the burger nor was there any option to add any. They don't seem to have left the burger on the Patty so that the juices can soak in which is pretty much standard for any good burger. The burger itself doesn't taste burnt, but leaves a lot to be desired. The soggy letters and tomatoes just trading overall disappointing experience. 2/5Overall I'm not a fan of this place. They really need to hold back on the seasoning because everything is over seasoned. How you over season mac and cheese is beyond me.2 out of 5 stars
