The mixed green salad is one of the best and the veggie risotto two of ordered? Delicious with exactly the texture to make it a great meal. The seafood spaghetti? Flavorful and tender. The bolognese the fourth dinner ordered? Gone and the bowl scraped clean. Good drinks and exquisite wine. Thinking about Italian? Think Due Lire. Easy parking across the street.

Friendly mom and pop Italian spot that was bustling with patrons. Great wine and food. Plenty of vegetarian options to choose from. Possibly the best gnocchi I’ve had in the city!Tiramisu was delicious but the pistachio tart cake was too good! Highly recommend

Wasn’t blown away by this place. Pasta was mediocre, server wasn’t familiar with certain cocktails and menu items. $6 charge for bread. $4 charge if paying with credit card. There are better options in the neighborhood and

Ate here for the second time in 3 weeks and found the food, waitress, hostess extremely awesome! Prices are great! Italian wine list extensive but not expensive-got a bottle on Gavi for $50 and it was delicious!

The fried calamari appetizer came quickly, hot, and crisp accompanied by fried shrimp, fried lemon slices, and large fried capers. Aiolo dipping sauce could have been a bit more tangy. Pasta with lamb ragu was perfect! Sauce was light and well balanced and the meat was shredded and tender and plentiful but not so much as to overtake the pasta shells. Nice wine list, including quite a number by the glass. Very prompt, attentive, and friendly service. K

Second time dining at Due Lire, and I'm just as impressed the second time! Lovely staff and atmosphere, and not to mention prices that are an excellent value for the quantity and flavor you get. I recommend any time I know people are traveling to Chicago, and will be back the next time I'm in town.

Cozy restaurant except that we were seated by the front door, and filks coming and going made it cold for much of our dinner. Service person was sincere but we were rushed along. Food was very good.

GNO and it did not disappoint. We have the fried calamari - it has fried shrimp, fried artichokes w a lemon aioli - so so tasty. The beet salad has a bacon vinaigrette on it - there were a couple vegetarians so our server recommended the champaign vinaigrette - perfect pairing!! gnocchi - so tasty. cannolis - also very tasty. I think they do cannolis the right way and they don't stuff them until they are served. over all it was a great night - great food, great wine and great service!! I can't wait to go back.

The food was very good and the service attentive. But ambiance is lacking and teh place extremely noisy due to very poor acoustics. Also too many screaming kids making it evey more noisy. Given that dinner for two was $180, I expect a better dining experience than I got.

My new goal in life is to be a local here, and with reasonable prices that's actually a possibility. My world is different now that I know what gnocchi is actually supposed to taste like.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place if you're looking for a casual night out or a date. While the service and atmosphere were stellar, making us feel quite welcome during the date, the food quality did not even near justify the price. I cannot remember the exact name of the dish we got, but it was some adaptation of pasta al scoglio. We were asked if it was okay that the oysters, clams, did not have shells. To me, that signaled less than fresh seafood in our pasta, and, unfortunately, our suspicions were confirmed once we got our dishes. The oysters were bland, the portion was relatively large, the pasta was largely flavorless, and the overall quality of the dish was subpar to poor. Overall, while we were given a warm welcome and great, attentive service, the dishes, the stars of the show, failed to deliver
