The food tastes just like the ambiance! Colorful and rich in flavor. Do not expect huge plates at this location. I got the enchiladas and they were amazing. Definitely not budget friendly. But it's so worth it's price! Don't cheap out and give it a try.

Stopped for brunch -- what a gem! Iced coffee and bloody Maria were lovely. Bloody had a nice flavor and amount of spice, salt and tajin on the rim. Had the chilaquiles en mole rojo with eggs -- flavors were great, portion was generous. Atmosphere and music were nice for family, friends, or a brunch date. Highly recommend!

If you are looking for unique and traditional Mexican food, this is the restaurant for you. The food is exceptionally prepared and presented, the ingredients superior and the drinks are like no others I have seen on a menu without having to go downtown to the Rick Bayliss restaurants.Family owned and operated and you can see this in every detail, even the artwork. The prices are well worth the quality.

Food is overall very good. We really enjoyed the moles. Service was friendly. Restaurant is simple but has some decor so I would say ambience is ok.

I found this place quite by accident and boy or boy was I happy! All the food is great, fresh, semi gourmet, had lots of servers, taken care of or tables of six, the owner Vincente Was super friendly and helpful. The margaritas were not that strong, but you could probably add extra shot of tequila :-) the desserts were decadent and very delicious and everything homemade, the restaurant itself was very cozy. The patio in the back was medium size with lots of table, umbrellas for shelter from the sun. Vincente’s mom is the chef. And she’s very good and came out to thank us after a meal. We will be back again and again.Vegetarian options: It’s Mexican food you can always make it delicious and vegetarian.Kid-friendliness: They had high chairsWheelchair accessibility: All first level with no steps super easy for a wheelchair

Went with a group of people for my sister's birthday. We were the only people there when we got there around 5pm on Sunday. The service was great, I asked the waiter for his recommendation. He said the mole dishes were their specialty. So I got the enchiladas de pollo en mole negro. The first thing I noticed was the pretty presentation. Also noticed no steam coming out, they were unacceptably cold. The tortillas are supposed to be soft and pliable, they were so cold that it was hard to cut and tortillas were stiff, chicken was dry, not enough mole which made them even drier, rice was undercooked. Ordered coconut pie and that was good for a few bites, cause it was on the sweeter side. Prices are too high to get served cold food. I hope they take this into consideration and not make those mistakes again. I think this restaurant has potential and wish them the best!

This is my favorite restaurant in Albany Park and probably my favorite Mexican restaurant in the entire city. Every time we go we try something new and it never disappoints. The menu is beautifully curated to highlight the best of Mexican cuisine. Forget Rick Baylesss and support this authentic family owned gem instead.Kid-friendliness: While this is probably more of a place for an nice date than a family dinner, we have taken the kids here before and there are excellent choices for them that are not just nuggets and fries.

Been here twice and each time the food is the best Mexican food I've had in my life. Great flavors, great presentation, and great service. Must go.

Amazing! Such great food, drinks, service & atmosphere. We've been meaning to visit for quite some time, so our party of four reserved a birthday dinner on the outside patio. What a treat! Drinks and food are crafted deliciously and expertly made to order. The ingredients were fresh and portions were satisfying. The service is friendly and very familial, and the ambience is colorful and vibrant. I'm glad we visited, El Alebrije is a neighborhood gem and we're all looking forward to our next visit. We all highly recommend, so hurry in!
