Went here for the last nights while they were opened as this was one of my favorite spots in the city. My friends and I came to eat our pants off because that's what you do when you come here! I got the schnitzel both pork and zucchini. We also ordered the scallops, and a cheese dish which we didn't care for. I would say overall the food was ok. It was nearly as good as previous times here. Scallops were a hit! Schnitzel was dry and very tough to cut through. If they were still open, I may try it again but we were a little disappointed from our last visit.

The spot is such a wonderful place to be. It's very comfortable and lovely and the staff is absolutely amazing. Excellent service. The only thing that didn't quite meet expectations was the food. The price is a bit higher but I was thinking that the food would then be a bit yummier. We had the crab dip, the pretzel, and the pork schnitzel. The drinks were very good though.

Came here for some awesome weekend hh deals, and I'll have to try some of the other menu items some time soon! The deals were outstanding, and the bar seating was very fun. Our bartender was great, and service was super quick. We got the rib tips, wings, fries, sliders, and pretzel for apps. These were so filling and delicious, and we had plenty leftover. The drinks were okay- both my fuzzy socks cocktail and espresso martini weren't the best. Definitely a cool spot though, and it was popping on a Saturday!

We'd been wanting to go for a while so were very excited to finally go. It was a great experience, but with the price tag I feel like it won't become a regular go-to.We got the schnitzel and dumplings. The schnitzel was very tasty, super thin so it looked massive. It was still two meals-worth, just very wide on a plate given how thin it was. The breading was great, nice and thin too. But ultimately it's schnitzel which isn't meant to be some super expensive item. The dumplings were good, and I'm glad we got something a bit less standard as well, which is what Funkenhausen is meant to be known for. I wasn't like blown away but they were good and a bit of a twist which I liked. My cocktail was good not great, though I can't remember which cocktail it was. My wife liked her cocktail more. For sides we got brussels sprouts and fries. The fries were incredible. Well cooked, delicious, incredible sauce. The brussels sprouts were the opposite, devoid of any sauce, surprisingly bland.

Overall cool vibes - great atmosphere and great music in the evening.Great service- Mari was awesome handling our reservation and greeting us. I felt very welcome and it was quite the hospitable place. Service was quick even during busy Saturday night during Restaurant Week. The food was incredible! I look forward to coming back and trying more menu items. Recommend: German pretzel, Slated Caramel dessert, Crab toast, Raclette, Knachwurst, Spaetzle caccio e pepe, and of course das Boots of bier.Enjoyed the Sunni Kolsh and the Shnitzengiggles heheDefinitely check this place out!!!

LOVED Funkenhausen. I'd heard enough good things so I made a reservation for a Friday night-- we probably could have walked in when we arrived but they were hopping by 7. The cocktail offerings are super minimal (although I do think they have a full bar); this is way more of a beer and wine place but I was fine with that especially in the hands of Catherine (I may have spelled that wrong- sorry!), our amazing server who knew the wines inside out. I really liked that the fusion concept of this place was so well thought out-- they had German faves like spaetzle but then you could get delicious charred broccolini too. My favorite course though was DEFINITELY dessert-- we couldn't resist the bourbon pecan pie or the salted caramel pots de creme. I highly recommend saving room. I would definitely come back here-- the whole experience was spot on and Catherine was one of the best and nicest servers I've had in a long time.

if you trust a review of a german restaurant from a non-beer drinking vegetarian, proceed...honestly i rate this place 4 and half stars - my husband and i enjoyed a quick meal at the bar in the company of great bartenders and great whiskey cocktails.the shaved vegetable salad and the brussels sprouts were delicious. i will go back for the zucchini schnitzel (and thank you for the inventive non-meat offering). just wasn't feeling the heavy meal that night.my only complaint - the pretzel wasn't big enough ;)absolutely love the "funk" of the place - great vibe and decor.

Dined here for a holiday/work-party. Service was awesome, drinks were creative and fun, atmosphere was buzzin', and our waiter had a cool haircut. The food was mostly great, especially the fries! Really loved the salads. That being said, the schnitzel was some of my least favorite I've ever had (and I grew up eating Austrian cuisine at home, as well as lived in Germany). Delicious flavor and the breading was perfect, but the meat itself was like chewing on leather -- way too tough.

Fun atmosphere, unique menu items, and friendly staff! What we ordered: Big pretzel: Good! Served in less than 5 minutes. The pretzel came with two dipping sauces.Scallops: Highly recommend. The scallops were light and the pork belly was cooked just rightRicotta dumplings: Too salty for me. The confit pork was very heavy but the veggies in the dish were ok!Berkshire pork loin schnitzel: It was my first time having a schnitzel. We thought it tasted alright. Might want to try the zucchini "schnitzel" next timeFrench fries: SO GOOD. Did not expect this much fries and it was so delicious

I’ve had this spot bookmarked for a while and finally made it for dinner. My only regret is not going sooner! Tried the oysters, beef croquettes, schnitzel, and cacio e Pepe and all were excellent. Also liked the decor/ design aesthetic very cozy and modern! Will def be back for brunch sometime.

One of my favorite restaurants in the city. Great, changing menu with a great line of of brews. The schnitzel is superb. Pounded thin with great breading. Pretzel comes with two fantastic dipping sauces. Service is always fantastic. Love Funkenhausen!

WOW, brunch here blew me away. The restaurant itself is adorable and so well decorated - literally everyone in our group took pictures of the wallpaper because it was stunning. Service was fast and friendly, and the food was DELICIOUS.We got a round of mimosas, which were pretty standardly good, and shared a giant garlicky pretzel to start. The pretzel had a light crunch on the outside but was thick and fluffy on the inside. The pimiento cheese and white bbq sauce it comes with were both really good!I got the country fried schnitzel and had zero complaints. It was crunchy on the outside with delicious and juicy meat. The gravy was rich and flavorful, and the side potatoes were just the quintessential crispy brunch potatoes. Can't wait to come back every time I'm in Chicago!

How I wish I had eaten here sooner! The food here was amazing. The options on the menu all sounded so delicious and creative. The place blends traditional German cuisine well with modern flavors.I definitely recommend the pork schnitzel. You cannot go wrong. The dumplings was some of the best sauce I've ever had but it is incredibly rich, so it's difficult to finish the entire thing. Soak it up with some of your schnitzel and you can use it like a gravy. Summer corn was good but I'd probably pass on it in the future as the w texture was a little like polenta. Espresso martinis are not on the menu but they can make them; and they are some of the best I've had. Also I recommend the piggy punch for a large group. Was delicious, tastes pretty much like tea.

This place has a great soundtrack. I love the mix of their fun atmosphere with decadent menu items. We started with the broccolini and oysters, then moved to a full slab of ribs with white bbq sauce, and ended with desserts. Whenever I ordered a beer, the server asked if I "just wanted the 16oz", because that's their smallest serving. In proper German tradition, they also had a stein or a boot of beer available. Service was friendly and attentive, with other staff glad to jump in to grab anything we needed, and our desserts brought out by someone from the kitchen even.
