Overall Thoughts: The service, hospitality, and personalized attentiveness in this spacious family-owned Italian restaurant are incredible. The owner Roger came out to greet each guest, our server was super sweet, and the whole experience came with complimentary bread and a small dessert. For just the warmth of the service and pleasant experience, I’d be down to come back. Food-wise, though some things were pretty good, there were overall more misses than hits. I’m more than willing to give other dishes on the menu a try though, as they look promising. The prices are reasonable, especially for the large, filling portion sizes. For a Friday night, there were a good amount of people, but there were still many empty tables in the restaurant.Food I tried:- Fried Calamari (3/5): Wasn’t a huge fan of this one. The calamari didn’t taste very fresh, and they were soggy.- 3 Topping Pizza with spinach, mushroom, and sausage (4.1/5): Overall solid thin crust pizza, though I felt it was a little lacking in flavor.- Rope Pasta Special (4.2/5): This dish was one of the specials of the day— it was a bit overcooked / mushy and I wish the flavors popped out more (it was mostly just salty). The sausage and chicken were cooked really nicely and flavorfully though. Overall, it was not bad, but I would want to try a different (perhaps more sauce/cream-based) pasta dish next time.- Clam Chowder Soup (4.9/5): This was the soup of the day that came with our pasta order. The small bowl was delicious— rich, creamy, and full of flavor. Definitely a highlight.- Free bread service and frozen cherry treat (5/5): Always love to see complimentary bread and dessert. The bread was pretty fresh and tasty, and I especially enjoyed the full garlic head spread that came with it. The chocolate covered frozen cherry was a nice simple closing touch.—Price (relative to peers): 4.3/5Food: 4.1/5Ambience: 4.8/5Overall Value: 4.3/5

Went to this restaurant with my family tonight. And the whole experience was a 10/10. I’ve never been here but I will be returning! From the start the staff was awesome. Even though busy, they made sure everyone was accounted for. Waitress was awesome and quick even though she had tons of tables, and the bartender a stellar guy who engages in good conversation. The food was phenomenal. For anyone who hasn’t been there, or any out of towners, I highly recommend it.

I wouldn’t suggest this establishment to my worst enemy. They were blatantly racist. They served three other tables before us even though we’d been there 20-45 minutes beforehand. Then there was a white female server taking care of everyone in the section we were in but us. They sent an asian male to do so. I want to emphasize the fact that he quite literally only served us. There were plenty of other people yet he would come to our table and after he’d leave from that side of the restaurant. The manager gave so many LIES and yes I mean lies not excuses because that’s exactly what they were to my family and I. She tried to deny it but there’s no way that none of our entrees had meat and there were tables where the patrons had ordered two entrees EACH with meat I might add and they got their food when they arrived 30 mins after us. I’m highlighting the fact that we had no meat in our dishes because there’s no way that these meals should’ve taken that long to be made. It’s unbelievable how we were treated and it’s unacceptable. I wish I could give this place 0 stars.

HORRIBLE experience. My daughters and I were never served our entrée . I had to stop a dishwasher and ask her to find my waiter. Once my waiter came to the table he informed me the food was being plated. Only to come back and say they needed 10 more minutes. This wouldn't have been an issue had I not seen 3 tables of ppl served who came in 15 minutes, and 45 minutes after us. I asked for the manager. She informed me that they were busy and that's why our order hadn't come out. She then switched her excuse to the food ticket was placed late. Then the excuse was lack of communication. I then asked for the bill for what we'd consumed. Also there was a white female server that took care of every single table in our section but ours. They had an asian male server come to take care of us. It was almost as if someome had instructed him to only serve us. The only reason for the lack of service that comes to mind is race. EVERY SINGLE PATRON that was dining in was served. It's unacceptable and I wouldn't suggest this place to ANYONE.

It's not often you find a restaurant in Chicago with as high as 4.8 stars. But now I understand. Ignotz is a very special place run by owners who put their full hearts in their business. I had the pleasure of setting up a catering order for a group at Cinespace. And I say pleasure because Roger (owner) was so friendly, warm and accommodating. My budget was relatively small so I was very moved that he was willing to open shop a couple hours early to take care of our lunch catering order. We ordered a bunch of pizzas and salad. I was SO EXCITED when we opened the boxes and discovered it was the classic Chicago square cut, thin crust style. Every single pizza was so delicious. Loved all the specials! My only regret is not ordering more of their "Italian Beef" pizza. That one was devoured in mere minutes, haha. Next time, I hope to go to Ignotz in person because I've heard such great things about the cozy atmosphere and great food. Thanks again Roger & Joan!!

Go and sit at the bar with Sasha, you will not be disappointed! He is awesome and we try to frequent on weekends when we know he’ll be there! My friend and I have sat with him twice and both times the service was on point. I prefer the interaction at the bar and the service is top notch with Sasha.

Best baked clams in Chicago. Ravioli, Lasagna, meatballs, everything I've had has been excellent! When I have to have Italian, this is the spot.

Chicken vesuvio the way it should be. In reality only in this small neighborhood called heart of Chicago. Can you get chicken? Vesuvio that's really done right.
