Java and Mug is my absolute FAVORITE cafe to go to!! The croffles and the refreshers are incredible, especially the black sesame croffle!! My sisters and I ate 9 croffles at once. Totally worth it :) The atmosphere is very clean and simple. The service is 125%, everyone is super kind. PLEASE COME AND VISIT you won't regret it :D such a LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE!

I’m not sure why all of these people are complaining…this is a cafe. You don’t come here to take a nap or have a party…Honestly, the revamp has been refreshing. The place is clean, the dirty/damp sofas are gone, and the menu has received a much needed facelift.Anyone who comes to visit, try the traditional Korean inspired drinks and the fruit croffle. Two thumbs up from a Chicago native.

This place was so intensely quiet. Not sure if this is normal for this cafe, or just the time we arrived, but it was almost uncomfortable. From the door loudly slamming behind us, to feeling like we had to whisper to chat you could have heard a pin drop. We also made the mistake of sitting in the seat closest to the restroom and could hear everything. The chair I reached for had a long strand of hair on it as well so things could be a bit mote tidy.Negatives aside the cheesecake was delicious! If you are looking for a dead silent study environment, this might be the place for you.

Disappointing changes with the new ownership. Is no longer the nice and cozy cafe with ramen and bubble tea that I loved so much.

Idk if they they sold it but its not the same. This used to be my favorite Korean cafe in the city. I used to get the bingsoo and paninis all the time, used to be the best bingsoo in the entire city. they still have bingsoo but it's more expensive and not as fresh and not as expensive fruit. They removed the cozy atmosphere and replaced it with a cold interior. I tried the waffle and it's decent but it doesn't make up for everything they took away from the menu.

The lattes are so good, it’s such a cute spot I love sitting by the window. And you have to try a croissant waffle. So crunchy and yummy. One of my favorite spots. Come early before the kids get out of class.

Enough time has passed with this new establishment that I could give an honest and thorough opinion/review. I loved this place very much throughout the years, and I could say with confidence that it was my favorite spot in the entire city. Whether I was leaving high school, visiting on my off-days from work, or studying for other things, this was always the first spot that would come to mind for almost a decade. It was surprising to see that the place was sold, keeping the same name and function as a café, and I was very sad to see that the couches were the first thing to go after the "renovation." That, the bubble tea, the board games, the ramen, and other factors which were removed as well were what kept me coming to Java & Mug so often, but they are all gone now. As another reviewer said, this place feels very sterile and dull now—completely unlike what the old establishment felt like, which was homey and cozy.I wish that the new owners would bring back the things that drew so many customers to the store in the first place, but that is merely a personal desire/preference. They can do what they please with their business, but unfortunately, I will not be frequenting this café anymore as I did for many years.

Got the citron ade and nutella croffle(mix of a croissant and waffle), 5 stars. Service was also very good. It was kind of pricey at 9 dollars for a croffle and 6 bux for a drink but once in a while doesn't break the bank.

I used to come here before they switched owners. Bingsoo was my go to order, but the recipe changed. It’s so bland and the fruits were sour. Also the vibe went from cozy to so sterile and dull. Furniture and paint makes it feel like an office.

My girlfriend and I were craving authentic Korean dessert and this place did not disappoint! We ordered the 'injeolmi croffle' and mango smoothie which had real bits of mango, and both were timely prepped and delicious. The staff was super friendly, and the cafe itself had a very cozy vibe. Overall was really pleased with our experience here.
