It is located on the fourth floor of the department store and has an exclusive elevator to reach it. The store has a large space and wide seating spacing.Free soup is served after ordering. Although it has no ingredients, the soup is sweet and delicious. The portion of Peking duck is relatively small. There is a separate plate of duck skin with powdered sugar. The half duck comes with ten pancake skins. It also comes with sweet noodle sauce, cucumber, shredded green onion and minced garlic. There are six pan-fried buns in a portion, and they are fried until the bottom is crispy. The filling is rich and juicy when you bite into it, which is very good. In addition, I ordered stir-fried pork sausage, seafood stew and stir-fried bean sprouts with garlic, which were also very good. The portions were quite large, and it cost about $40 per person for four people. There are a little few service staff, and there are robots to help bring out the food, but you still have to wait for ordering and serving.

Excellent Chinese food on 4th floor of downtown Chicago building for good views during your lunch/dinner. Hand made dumplings and the hot and sour soup are excellent.

Very cute place, very bright and clean. The hot and sour soup was perfect. Nice and hot (temp and spice). I got the black pepper tenderloin entrée. It was advertised as spicy but was not in the least. It was tasty, hot and served with green and red peppers, mushrooms and bamboo shoots , but it was not near the spice level I expected. Still, you can see and taste the freshness and it was still tasty. Worth a try!

Racist and intimidated. Hung up the phone & blocked my number because I simply asked about their security guards.

I've been there a few times in the past, but it's been a while since I last visited.13:00 on weekdays. The large store was empty.Ordered Xiao Long Bao, Singapore Noodles, and Wonton Soup.As an appetizer, a slightly spicy cabbage dish (is this an appetizer?) came out.All the dishes are delicious but bland.Especially the wonton soup is not very thick. The xiaolongbao was not so hot that I could easily eat it.Singapore noodles have a light taste, are not spicy, and are refreshing, so they were delicious. What's disappointing is the service. Many of the plates were missing the edges. The staff who took the order was nice, but the staff who brought the food didn't bring another plate to take the xiao long bao unless I told them to, or they didn't ask about anything and just took the leftover appetizers. It was lowered. Also, this person didn't even greet us when we left.

The food was pretty good! My friends and I all got noodles plus a side of szechuan wontons. The portions were pretty good. Most dishes are spicy I believe. The view and ambience is really nice. Would recommend for any occasions!

When I walked into the restaurant there was only a couple eating. The ambience of the place is very good. The service was very poor. The lady at the billing counter took my order, with hardly any interaction or suggestions. Spring rolls arrived within two minutes and was very good. Hot and sour soup was good. There was lovely banter from the back among staff but no one bothered to check even once. By the time my noodles arrived, other couple left. I took a few bites and asked for a box. While I was packing, the lady arrived with check not even bothering to ask for courtesy. She asked to help as I spilled one noodle on the table. After packing, she cleaned the table while I was still sitting?

Service was poor. It’s either they are understaffed, or the staff on hand aren’t well trained enough and only one lady was capable of doing the ordering, the checks, and answering customer questions. Then again. The ordering process was rushed. I could feel the rushed snappy attitude of the server. Requested spoons 3 times, and finally arrived after the meal was half done. The steamed mixed veggies had bad(rotten?) veggies which we notified the server. The ordering process took very long, as if they server/waiter would forget about you—or just be very snappy in answering questions. (It was the attitude)I read other reviews on the mapo toufu, it was runny and flavor less. For the price that was paid and the quality of food that came out… this restaurant didn’t use the authentic seasonings that puts flavor in a typical Szechuan dish.Needless to say. I was very disappointed in both the food and service. Even getting the check took too long. I couldn’t stand sitting there a minute longer.Again. The service and attitude was very poor. The food quality went bad. And the cooking flavor was poorly done. I felt injusticed that I spent this kind of money for such a poor experience.

The brand has lost its value in this location. Over priced, and the important thing is not tasty.

After visiting Lao Sze Chuan's Chinatown location on different occasions, we decided to try this one (Downtown) due to its close proximity. BAD DECISION. This restaurant has disappointed us TWICE. We got 1. Chef's Special Crispy Chili Tofu (was served completely opposite to its name, as soggy, soft and very tender tofu which was falling apart, I believe they used the wrong type for frying) and 2. Ma Po Tofu which was runny and bland. While this location does have easy accessibility and good ambience, I will not be returning here and will advise anyone reading this to take a few extra minutes and just head to Chinatown for good food as you will not get value for your money.

Didn’t expect the Chef’s Special Dry Chili Chicken to be bad. How come the chicken and chili are so soft instead of crispy? Beef Noodles are made with cheap grocery store noodles. Shame.

Hmmmm. This place came highly recommended. Unfortunately, we had a bad experience. The tea tasted like dirty socks and fish oil, the service was super slow to non existent. No one stopped at our table after our food arrived to check in with the first bites. Our server finally came back, long after we finished eating, to give us our bill. The food taste was average and overpriced. Note: Rice is not included with an entree. Our orange beef was served cold. There were 3 of us at our table. We are experienced Chinese food people having lived in Asia for over 5 years and have traveled throughout China. On the positive side, the atmosphere is nice and it is centrally located on Michigan Avenue.

Consistently good food and friendly, helpful staff make dining at Lao Szechuan a pleasure. Love their new robot that brings entrees to the table for the server. Our only 'complaint' of the menu is that the potsticker dough is thicker than we prefer.

We had a little bit of everything. The duck was incredible. We also had the fried rice and beans.
